Mr. Cocoa and Jr. Cocoa were having a discussion about this over the weekend. I'm wondering if Zoners feel the same way they do...here's the situation:

If you had the ability to play professional football or the knowledge to hold a front office position, could you play for/work for another team other than the Dallas Cowboys, and if so, could you do your best work for that team?

Yes and Yes

If I had the talent to play at the NFL level and a team liked me enough to draft/sign me, then I would do everything I could to perform at the highest level for them. The fandom I have now goes away. There are 52 other guys in that locker room that are counting on me to work as hard as I can; it becomes my job.

If I were drafted by the Bills, I would be a Buffalo Bill at that point on. If I were drafted by the Chiefs, I would be a Chief. Understandably, things most certainly don't always work out the way you want them to, but whatever team I'm hypothetically on at the time, I would give it 100% no matter what.

I'd actually prefer to work for a different organization. My personality type doesn't work well with people who hold positions based on something other than merit.

I've thought of that in the past. I love the Cowboys, but I don't think I would want to work in the organization.

Our loyalty may be longstanding and deep, but ultimately it's from a distance. We are not privy to much innerworkings and direct communication with the primary players.

If that were to happen with another team, other players spilling their guts for a common cause that I'm an integral part of, you can bet I'd be all in due to my love of the game and the team concept.

So far all of you are in agreement with the men in my family. They think I'm nuts, but I'm not sure I could play/work for any team other than the Cowboys. In fact, I told them I could not.

I wouldn't play/work for the Cowboys until Jerry was gone at the minimum. Of course I wouldn't play for any NFCE team or the Stealers either. Happiness is more important than anything and I definitely would be happy playing for a team I hate or the asinine behavior of Jerry.

If football was my profession then yes, I would be totally focused on what's best for my career without any team loyalties whatsoever.

However, I would be one of those ultra rare (non existent?) athletes who considered cost of living of an area instead of just the pure dollar value of a contract. So Dallas would have a leg up on many other teams if they were interested in me. Right there I get to avoid state income tax for my residence (yes I know I'd have to pay other state income tax for road games).
