Don't be surprised if we don't land any of these guys. Other than the obvious pick of Terrance Newman, no one has been able to predict what BP would do in the draft.

I have a feeling OLB isn't on his radar. Expect to be surprised.

Hmm. I think last year we were all pretty sure he'd take either Ware or Merriman (but more likely Ware) if he was there and then go with either Spears or Castillo after that.

Agree totally.
We were all over this last year. Not sure what you are talking about Eddie.

I hate to speculate on any what ifs, but I'll say no, he wouldn't be top 15. Simply because this draft has so much depth at top and his position. Somewhere between 16-25 whereas right now I'd say he is 20-30 range. Just guessing here though. There really is no way to know. He played in his Bowl game after the injury so he may be right where he would be without the injury ever having happened. We just don't know. I think for where we are thin he is the most complete OLB who is likely to be available to us. I'd very much like to trade down, add a Day 1 pick and get him. That is my dream scenario.

No, he didn't. He suited up, but didn't get on the field. I think it was more of an emotional thing for him in his teammates that he suited up during the Bowl game.

However, I also don't think he would be any higher had he not been injured unless he just ran lights out and impressed in drills at the Combine.

I don't think his injury dropped his value that much because it isn't career threatening and scouts had a good look at his body of work.

The big argument is that Carpenter doesn't have upside. How do people figure that? Just because he is more polished than the others right now. There is no way I believe that a guy is a finished product right out of college. He improved in college and took on more roles. He'll grow as a LB in the NFL as well. Guys like Wimbley and Lawson might have higher ceilings, but it might take them five years to reach it.

I think Carpenter is a good fit in the 3-4, but I wouldn't complain about Lawson, Wimbley or Mark Anderson.

Actually, if you go back to last year you'll find that several people had Ware coming to us at 11 because Norm Hitzges, Mickey Spagnola, and Rick Gosselin were dropping a lot of hints.

Actually add Mike Mayock to that list of people who did that too. He hinted as much in NFL total access that BP was high on Ware or at least Cowboys were.

I heard people post here, saying Lawson has little football instincts per his college coaches? That would concern me a bit.

Although I watched bunch of Ohio State games, I only remember AJ Hawk making plays more so than Carpenter. Not that I watched them closely or anything. Even AJ Hawk, I don't see how he is like top 5 player though. Only player I thought who was worth that at LB was Lavar Arrington, and look at how unworthy of that high pick he has so far turned out to be. Maybe its me, but I don't see the value of spending such a high draft pick on LB.

In a 4-3, I agree you shouldn't spend high picks on LBers. In a scheme designed to the playmaking abilities of LBers, I think you do take them high.

Well, I am not sure you understood what I meant by high, since after I posted it, it could be taken as me saying we shouldn't take a LB as high as 18th. What I am saying a regardless of your choice of front, taking a LB top 5 in draft, is bit too high, IMO. Too much money will be tied up in one LB spot in a 3-4.

Now if we are talking about say from 10-32 spot, I would agree. Cause money is substantially less than a top 5 pick.
