I hate to speculate on any what ifs, but I'll say no, he wouldn't be top 15. Simply because this draft has so much depth at top and his position. Somewhere between 16-25 whereas right now I'd say he is 20-30 range. Just guessing here though. There really is no way to know. He played in his Bowl game after the injury so he may be right where he would be without the injury ever having happened. We just don't know. I think for where we are thin he is the most complete OLB who is likely to be available to us. I'd very much like to trade down, add a Day 1 pick and get him. That is my dream scenario.
No, he didn't. He suited up, but didn't get on the field. I think it was more of an emotional thing for him in his teammates that he suited up during the Bowl game.
However, I also don't think he would be any higher had he not been injured unless he just ran lights out and impressed in drills at the Combine.
I don't think his injury dropped his value that much because it isn't career threatening and scouts had a good look at his body of work.
The big argument is that Carpenter doesn't have upside. How do people figure that? Just because he is more polished than the others right now. There is no way I believe that a guy is a finished product right out of college. He improved in college and took on more roles. He'll grow as a LB in the NFL as well. Guys like Wimbley and Lawson might have higher ceilings, but it might take them five years to reach it.
I think Carpenter is a good fit in the 3-4, but I wouldn't complain about Lawson, Wimbley or Mark Anderson.
