What is going to happen to Garrett? is he willing to stay an OC for a few years here until Wade leaves?

When coaches and players are hot, they are hot, and one bad season can change everything. A hot commodity one day can change quick.

Nope. If Jerry thought Garrett should be the Head Coach he should have hired him instead of Wade. It would be a total knee jerk reaction to fire Phillips over a first game playoff failure after a 13-3 division championship season.
I know people will point to Marty last year or Jerry's parting with Jimmy as examples of why Jerry might fire him, but those are different situations. Marty and AJ Smith hated each other and Jimmy and Jerry disagreed over who should get the credit or Jimmy felt it was time to go, whichever story you believe.
IMO, Jerry and Wade have a very good relationship, Wade has done a terrific job as evidenced by his record and that record warrants or deserves at the very least another season as Head Coach.

I hope Garrett stays but Wade is the HC and has done a great job for us. It really is up to Jason of what he wants to do but my hope is he stays.

I think that Garrett stays and replaces Wade a little down the line.

One benefit to Garrett in this case is that he would be helping to build the team. That way when he does take over, it could be his groceries.

Really good points here.

If Jerry were to fire Wade if he does not win a playoff game, and then give the team to Garrett and next year he does not win a playoff game, does he fire Garrett also?

This is not the Commanders team! If Jerry fires every coach that does not win a playoff game he will never find a competent coach to come to Dallas and take a HC job...it's just a ridiculous way of thinking.

31 years coaching vs. 3? Proven record vs. one season of results? Which needs more help; ur Defense or our Offense?

Garrett has to do what is good for Garrett. I hope that he realizes he is not ready for a HC job - here or elsewhere.

Very true! Look at what that genious Sean Payton did this year in N.O.

Yeah! He and his team played on emotion last year just like the Commanders did at the end of this year...and look what it got him.

If Garrett does leave (and it would probably be for money) then as smart as he is, his priorities might not be as stright as he thinks they are because this Cowboy team is going places...

;)

I liked Wade's response:

"My record stands for itself," Phillips said. "That's all I can say. I mean, we're 13-3, we're No. 1 in the NFC, we're playing a playoff game which I think we'll win. I don't have any control over anything except how I coach and how well I feel like I coached the team. So that's what I'm going to try to do. and do my best. That's all I can ever do."

they are talking about it on the david smoak show, www.ktbb.com with christ mortenson, he says if wade phillips loses this weekend, then it wouldnt be a shock to him if jerry jones makes a head coach change to keep jason garrett, but chris also said that he didnt think that garrett wouldnt leave, that he thought garrett is happy in dallas, for right now, and he knows, that he probably be the head coach when they go to the new stadium,,

you can listen to this talk on www.ktbb.com then go to pods or cowboys archives, and listen if you want too, only thing chris thinks is that sparano might get the miami job with jeff ireland there and parcells, but he isnt totally sure, but pretty sure,

No.

Wade Phillips will not lose his job solely to keep Jason Garrett in the organization.

Including Jason Garrett, I think there are some other factors that could cost him his job if we lose Sunday.

1) Seems to me that Jerry Jones has made it known that Jason Garrett has a future here.

2) Wade Phillips will be 0-4 in the Playoffs if we lose this game. Now, there are probably coaches that had worst records in the Playoff and went on to have success, but I think you will have to wonder if we lose this game, is this really what Wade Phillips is.

3) If we lose to the Giants, you will have been booted out of the Playoffs by a team you whipped twice and each time you played them you won by double digits.

Like everything else, this is pure speculation and just an opinion.

Wade Phillips has done a wonderful job with this team but if we lose in the first round, I really wouldn't be suprised if Jason Garrett is promoted and Wade Phillips is shown the door.

The only problem is how would some of the guys that Wade Phillips brought in and are obvioulsy very loyal to him think?

I doubt he loses his job but I wouldn't be suprised if he did.

Then don't be surprised...because Wade is not going to lose this game.

Thanks for the reply...
