This been out there for a while, but this is the credible confirmation. Word is he's been thinking about retiring, but can't make up his mind.

While probably not a factor, I do wonder if Parker leaving will have an impact on Fangio's decision (either way).

Gannon was already hired and the Browns have stated publicly they want Schwartz back (he was VERY vocally upset about not getting the HC job) so the Eagles would have to offer the Browns compensation most likely to get him.

My guess is Fangio agrees to stay one more year and that allows the Eagles to plan better to replace him in 2027.

Well I really don't care about this story because it doesn't change a whole lot,

The only thing I would add if this was the Cowboys dealing with this, a real GM, I thought Howie would just tell the guy that you get two weeks, you know after the last game you played to decide on this, or you have to just go, because they are losing out on a lot of good options why he sits and leaves them in limbo...

I'm not sure I want to coach that Contemplating retirement even if he decides to stay, have to question his Commitment and what not...

Good point but I'm hearing/reading the Browns are planning for Schwartz to return, whether he likes it or not, he's under contract. This has Bill Callahan/Jerry Jones vibes......

If the Eagles want Schwartz (and he would be a good hire for them to return to the Eagles) then the best plan would be to convince Fangio to stay one more year and when Schwartz' contract expires next year bring him back then.

Schwartz of course has leverage as well. He could tell the Browns he will return but he's not signing another contract and he will be preparing to leave all season. Of course if he really wants to irritate the Browns he could say he's retiring and then after the Browns scramble to hire a DC, he unretires before the first game to fulfill his contract and create enough drama for the Browns that they might release him.

That said, teams typically don't keep head coaches or coordinators who don't want to be there. It's much easier to keep unhappy position coaches because they cannot afford to damage their reputations without it impacting their upward career progress elsewhere. Most head coaches and coordinators have already proven themselves on some level as HC, OC or DC.

If Fangio retires, the smart move for the Eagles would be to offer the Browns a draft pick in this year's draft to get Schwartz. That would allow the Browns to save face and get something for a coach who no longer wants to be there and it allows the Eagles to bring back a good former DC whom they know.

He’s 67 and it’s a long season. Can’t blame him one bit.

I really dont like the thought of them getting Schwartz....I think he is one of the best DC's out there.

Hopefully Parker is as good as advertised and we get him the players he wants to build his system. I am very happy that we took Fangio's right hand man.

Please wait until all the defensive coordinators candidates have settled into jobs elsewhere. Thanks.
