quick draft recap

we filled all the positions except for WR, that I thought Dallas needed to, this class was pretty weak for WRs, witness none went in the 1st round and the consensus best WR had one productive year in college, so that's not too bad, I've been a big believer that we need to get a developmental guy at WR, but there's no sense in rushing it, and there will probably be guys like Paul Hubbard and Marcus Monk to sign as UDFAs to fill that role, not to mention we have Miles Austin, Isiaih Stanback and Sam Hurd already

what we did do, got a complement to Barber, and explosive one at that, who will also contribute in the return game, we safe-guarded that pick w/ Tashard Choice later, in all, we took 5 players rated in Goose's top 100 list, including a massive weapon for Romo in Martellus Bennett, we got depth at CB as well, players in Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick w/ very high ceilings, and those picks can help on special teams in strengthening the coverage there

we even added a 3rd and 4th in next year's draft

A draft since none will start, which is keeping it from being an A+, we played the field really well and didn't reach at all

C+

Loved the Jenkins pick, but we didn't have to move around to get him.

I wish Jerry knew as much about drafts as you.

Yes, we did -- clearly SD was going to take the best CB on the board

Good recap.

Also should add that this draft, even though ALOT of people won't like it, gives us flexibility when it comes to the signing of Newman and Barber.

There is a very good chance that one of those guys won't be on the team next year.

Yep, and Jenkins would have been is SD. Good move up IMO.

Awwww...did I hurt your feelings in the other thread?

I don't get the point of saying things like that. And it just furthers what I have already said about you.

Could have had him at 22. Then taken a rb at 28. Even if we took Jones at 22, we still may have gotten him at 28....and if not, we could have had Cason...and kept our picks.

That's the only point I'm trying to make.

I don't get why people are saying Jenkins would have been there at 28, something made us move up to take him

No. Jerry didn't have to move. I was in the war room and San Diego called and told us they weren't taking Jenkins.

Jerry...what an idiot.

Maybe we wanted Jones and Jenkins and felt Jenkins > Cason?
That couldn't be, though.

A-

We were a SuperBowl contender going into the draft. We did everything to improve our chances. I love the Felix Jones pick....remember who backed up Barry Sanders in college. Now, I'm not saying d-mac is = to Barry but Thurman was never able to showcase his stuff in college. If Felix is half the player thurman was..we got a steal.

Still think Jerry has something up his sleeve...we will get that "Wow" WR before camp starts.

I'm excited for '08 already!

The same goes with those saying Jones would have been there at 28...just wasn't going to happen. I think after all is said and done...we played it PERFECT

I'll give it a completely useless grade right now of B.

I really like the picks for Jenkins, Bennett (if he ends up being what I think he will and isn't another Fasano) and Choice.

The Felix pick is okay, but I still would have preferred to address the complement back in the 2nd with Charles.

I don't know enough to comment on Scandrick or Walden but if they can contribute on special teams while they are developmental projects they are okay picks.

Look Broseph. You're the one that followed me into this thread and attacked me....and I couldn't care less about "what you've already said about me".

Based on what we needed coupled with what we got, I've got it as an A. We made ourselves so much better at corner and RB, and going into the draft those were definitely positions of need. We didn't need anything else other than WR and what was available wasn't very good. Apparently our front office either thinks we're still going to make a trade for a vet WR or they're pretty happy with the progress of Austin, Hurd, and especially Stanback. Regardless, we're going to be a very talented and deep team this fall.
