We don't trade players. We publicly announce that we want them gone and kill any trade value they may have had. Then they go and become contributing starters on other teams (TO, Roy Williams, Greg Ellis)
In all fairness, nobody thought TO was going anywhere and then he was just suddenly released. The whole league knew that RW was going to be gone because his play had declined. And Greg Ellis pretty much got himself kicked out of Dallas with his incessant whining. It's hard to trade players that play bad or put their foot in their mouth.

And other than Cini, the other two teams where TO and Ellis are "contributing" are AWFUL.

Trade him for whatever you can get, I agree. Isn't this the last year of his contract, anyway?

Carpenter is going to have a breakout game any week now so trading him would be a a bad idea.

Just in case anyone is confused, I wanted all of those players gone too. I'm just sick of seeing other NFL teams trade players for future picks and we get no return for players that obviously are good enough to start for someone.

Jerry understands that free agents look at how teams treat players. We let veteran guys go and find their best options rather than trying to trade them somewhere they don't want to be. That is HUGE when it comes to acquiring free agents.

They are desperate. Real desperate. One can dream. I'll ask for a 4th but will settle for a 5th or 6th.

Why exactly would we want to trade a productive player for our defense and special teams?

People just can't get over us using a first-round pick on him. He definitely hasn't proven to be worth that, but if we had taken him in the fourth round or fifth or sixth, I think everyone would be satisfied with what we're getting from him.

Drop the hate and you might realize that he's doing fine in the only role in this defense that suits him. He has not given up any big catches and has quickly got in on the tackle on underneath throws. The only play that can be held against him in five games this season was being out of position on one run ... that's a pretty good success rate.

That's a good point. It just seems that we tend to "air our laundry" loudly and teams know they can just wait on us to release a player. I think we need to do a better job of keeping it in-house and trying to work out trades. Teams will give up picks for potential starters. Conditional picks are best in these cases because the new team is protected against the guy coming in and sucking.

Anyone know if we are getting a conditional pick for Burnett? Should be 4th right?

Canty looks like he won't play this year but is contract might net us a 6th.

I assume you mean compensatory picks. And no, we won't get any unless we cut Sensabaugh, Brooking or Olshansky.

We should get compensatory picks for them. Adam would be the one to ask on what round the pick(s) would be in.

Really? I thought your last take was that we would get something for losing Canty AND Burnett. Is it because Olshansky, Brooking, and Sensabaugh are playing so well and Canty isn't playing at all?

Isn't the trade deadline past?

Tuesday of next week I believe. I'm pretty sure that trade deadline comes up the Tuesday after week 6 completes.

When i saw this thread I figured it would be a trade Bobby for TO thread.

No, it's because the Chiefs released Zach Thomas. Before that, we were in line to receive a comp pick for Canty, as long as Joe Berger wasn't cut by Miami. But with Zach Thomas out of the equation, the best we can do is to break even (three players signed, three players lost), which won't get us a comp pick.

At this point Dallas should take some pocket lint and a four leaf clover for his sorry ***...

And if the four leaf clover is a deal breaker, just take the lint.
