Quick look at Toia

He looks very slow. He needs to work on his hand technique and he relies too much on his size incollege as he is not getting low and is too upright. He is got some size andnpower but can't get away with thar playing against Tyler Smiths of the NFL

He looks like a bottom of the depth chart or perhaps benefit from being on PS for a year.

This pick is exactly why I don't understand why fans were pushing for DT with 12, especially after we signed Osa. It appears Mazi has the other job locked down. We needed a run plugger with two jobs: stop the run and keep LBers clean. So this is my fav pick behind Booker ..........
Prepare to be disappointed. He is not ready

Toia will be better than Mazi. Mazi was good at underwear olympics but his athleticism doesn't translate at all and he's a poor football player.
Toia is a high motor guy with a very good anchor that plays with a mean streak. He's not going to be a big stats guy but he'll eat up doubles and make some plays here and there.

IMO you can never have too many Polynesians. The culture puts so much emphasis on protecting the family name guys generally work their ***** off.
Toia is way less athletic and you think he is going to take this DT position to another level? The guy looks slow. Really slow. He will get eaten up by Tyler Smiths of the NFL.

Truer words never spoken brother.

It's just my favorite team of over 50 years has reduced me to being a hope for luck fan.
Ugh, now I even sound like a Jones.

And I know that ain't no strategy.
It's just all I got left with the current management team continuing on.

Cowboys!
It's the reality of the situation though. Until there are foundational changes (Jerry dies, Dak leaves, etc ) our only chance is to luck into some kind of success.

With some technique work he can hold his own. He is short and stout. If he can just clog the middle that is far more than anyone has done in over a decade.

Looking at the scouting reports on him your critique sound personal rather than substantive.

Wrong.

We need good football players. Big size isn't the answer onto itself.
This was very stout in college. He anchored the DL on a Defense that gave up less than 95 yards a game rushing. He is a good football player.

He has traits that can transfer well into the role he will be tasked to do. Does it mean he will be a peranial all pro? Of course not, and no one is saying he will.

He will have an opportunity to grow and develop. He will likely get minimum reps per game as Mazi can't play every snap. DT is the slowest developing position group or one of the slowest developing. Give the kid who has done zero to warrant the hate you are giving him a chance.

He hasn't even put pads on yet and you're deeming him a total bum. Smh

I said he’ll be better than Mazi Smith, not saying a ton there. I think he could be an ok traditional anchor down 1T. How much value that provides really depends on defensive philosophy.

While that's not "saying a ton", that still doesnt make it definite he will be better. Let's see the 7th round pick play a few downs of even NFL preseason football first.

an anchor we have not had for over a decade.
