Is there something written in a player's contract that protects the club from player injuries outside of football (sports related, not stumbling down the stair, etc.)?

I know players need a life outside of football, but that shouldn't be at the expense of the club.

This could be us:

-- Jason Shirley Could be Lost for Season --
Mon Apr 5, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
The Cincinnati Bengals official website reports Bengals OG Jason Shirley is feared lost for the season after undergoing surgery Monday to repair a torn Achilles. The 6-5, 338-pound Shirley apparently was injured playing in a charity basketball game with a team of Bengals over the weekend. Shirley, a defensive tackle taken in the fifth round out of Fresno State in 2008, moved to the offensive line early in the last training camp and was on the practice squad all year. He is looking at the very least at a six-month rehab, which would bring him to October.

At the very least
If I'm the club, it's written and heavily emphasized that lost time of such nature would cost payment of game checks during missed time.

football is an everyday job just like the m-f 8-5 most of us work. If I were to break my leg outside of work I could still take PTO, Long term disability, ect ect so why cant they ?

Cincinnati might draft Iupati. That'd bring their total to 4 of Samoan players on their roster.

Many times the agents take out an insurance policy on players to protect them, if you are listed as a non football injury the team in many cases do not pay out the contract for that season.

Teams also put in clauses preventing players from performing some off-field activities, like riding motorcycles...

Thanks,

In cases where a team doesn't pay out as a result of a charity sporting event, I'm sure this has to cause problems/friction with the player. Also has to have a negative impact on the team's public relations.

Kind of a catch 22, screwed for paying when not football related and frowned upon for not paying.

The Big Ben clause I guess your referring to.

They'll be adding another clause soon for Ben:

No cavemanning, permission must be present!

Yes, teams are protected from non-football injuries.

From the CBA --

Section 3. Non-Football Injury:
A player who is placed on a Non-Football Injury or Illness list (“N-F/I”) will not be entitled to any compensation under his contract ...

Also, a standard player contract prohibits players from participating in "any activity other than football which may involve a significant risk of personal injury."
