Not sure if anyone else noticed it, but Spencer missed an easy sack on Kolb leading to the win.

This is just another bad play in a series of bad plays that have either led to poor field position, points for the opposition, or in this case, losses.

I think this is his last year here. He's a 4-3 Defensive End, as he was coming out of Purdue, and he's never made the transition.

felt like wade phillips was on the sideline

He's just not very fast that's a problem in situations like that but that is also a play designed to bait the pass rush, so i'm not sure i gonna put it all on him and give the 5 or 6 guys missing tackles behind him a pass

Apart from 1 run where he blew contain and that one at the end Spencer was actually one of out better defenders today

But he's the chosen scapegoat for this season so i won't let reality get in the way of another Spencer bashing thread, screw him

He is stiff and doesn't have much burst.

He is better than a JAG but he is not a premium player.

I would bring him back for an average starter salary - $4-5M/yr. However, if we do bring him back we will have to search for another edge rusher to complement Ware.

Lack of effort again....This team is summed up by Tnew and Spencer. Watch them today and you have the Dallas Cowboys. Losers!

It's tough, because he does do some things well, and very well at times. But not having a SOLB like Woodley or Matthews, etc., really hurts this D. Ryan keeps talking him up, but then he doesn't produce. Look at Aldon Smith for SF. Perfect example of someone could really use. People say that our scheme requires a SOLB who can set the edge and stop the run. True, but he also has to be able to get to the QB. It's like DE's. Yes, you want guys who can stop the run, but if that's all they can do, the defense will be limited.

I don't like the idea of using another draft pick on an OLB, but if a guy like Upshaw is available, I wouldn't have a problem with us taking him.

Lol, Spencer has never made the transition?

What a inane comment.

He's a good 34 OLB, just not a dynamic passrusher.

The very last play? that was a designed screen.

He breaks contain ALL THE TIME this year. He didn't do this last year, I have no clue what he is doing. I'm done with him.

The problem with the way the game is played now, it's hard to have a good defense if you have too many "situational" type players. I think that's our problem - too many guys who are good at one thing, and a liability in another area. Either they can stop the run, or rush the passer, or can cover, but not all.

That screen play that beat us today was on frist and 15, against our base defense. They let Spencer go, and he just didn't have the mobility to really stay anywhere close to Kolb.

It seems the best defenses have at least 9-10 guys on defense that don't have to come off the field, regardless of the situation.

Oh, he broke contain a lot last year. I recall several plays where he crashed down on the RB, or took too sharp an angle to the QB.

I was a huge Spencer supporter entering this season but I'm fading fast. We need a more dynamic presence opposite Ware.

Plain and simple, 3-4 OLB's need to be able to eat QB's.

But, but, but...he doesn't rush the passer!! He plays the run and covers all game long :laugh1:

THIS!

Thank you... I'm screaming at him every game to contain the outside but he never hears me through the HDTV.

Spencer is not fast enough. He also didn't give any effort last year. I don't know why fellow Cowboy fans thought that it would be a good idea to resign him. Let him go. Get young-hungry players on defense.

Spencer is JAG.

He's been his entire tenure here minus one 6 or 7 game stretch in 2009.

If he couldn't do it this year with his next contract on the line, he'll never do it. He's had DeMarcus Ware bookending him his entire career and has done next to nothing with it.

I'd put OLB right up there with the interior of the OL on our needs list.
