Quincy to Arena 2 League *merged*

good for him. I don't have anything against Q. He QB'd the team to the playoffs. He screwed up royally, but he obviously has some personal demons that I know nothing about. I wish him the best in his new endeavor.

good for quincy...its good to see that he is not giving up on trying to get to the NFL, even if his chance is VERY small.

Hope he does well there, he certainly has to be dissappointed signing a deal like that after playing QB for the Cowboys, its amazing how quickly things can turn around.

My sentiments exactly. I wish him the best.

the AFL and ESPN hooked up a deal, dont' know if they're going to start broadcasting this spring, or next spring, but not that long from now you'll be able to salivate over Quinthy in action :)

There's AFL and AFL2. We used to have a small AFL2 team where I live. As far as TV contracts go you'll see plenty of AFL teams on the tube but you will never see AFL2 teams on there. Think of it as a farm league for the AFL.

If you were simply implying that at some point in time, to obviously boost ratings, Arena Football is going to look to get him up to the AFL level I totally agree with you. I hope he turns his life around.

Quincy Carter signs with La. arena team, hopes for NFL return

The Associated Press

Former Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets quarterback Quincy Carter signed on Thursday with the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings of the Arena Football 2 league, saying he hoped the move would help him get back to the NFL.

Carter, 29, has not played in the NFL since 2004. He called arena football "perfect for my skills."

Carter, who grew up in Georgia and played for the Bulldogs in college, was a second-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2001 and started all 16 games for Dallas in 2003.

In 2004, he played in seven games for the Jets.

Carter completed 542 of 960 passes for 6,337 yards and 32 touchdowns in 38 games during his four NFL seasons. He also rushed for 518 yards and three touchdowns.

"I know quite a few players who have moved from the outdoor game to the AFL and AF2, and even more that have moved from arena football to the outdoor game," Carter said. "I see AF2 as a place to begin the process of getting back to the National Football League."

The AF2 is the minor league for the main Arena Football League and is entering its eighth season.

Battle Wings coach Jon Norris predicted that Carter would "quickly demonstrate to everyone how he can comfortably adapt his outstanding athletic abilities to the indoor game."

"Quincy coming here is exactly the message the Battle Wings want to send out to football players everywhere," Norris said. "We want to be known as a place for aspiring NFL players to develop and hone their skills."

The Battle Wings' 2007 training camp begins in mid-March and the regular season opens on April 7.

Good for Q......

I've always felt that he was screwed over by Parcells and had a lot of talent. Unfortunately he also had a bit of a drug problem but hopefully those days are behind him and he can work his way back into the NFL and become a premier starter again.

Does this crack anyone else up? Just the name is hilarious. The fact that our one-time hope at QB is now playing for this hilarious named team is just depressing - and filled with relief. If I could find their games broadcast, I'd probably watch them.

he was never my hope at QB...ever. but, yes - the name's hilarious.

He didn't get "screwed over by Parcells".

He "screwed over" himself.

Twice he cost himself a fairly lucrative professional football job because of his behavior.

Three times if you count his tantrum up in Canada as well.

hmm, I thought AFL2 was just a typo, guess we won't be seeing him on the tube then :cries:

Former Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Quincy Carter has signed an arenafootball2 (af2) contract to play for the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings. The 29-year-old Georgia native was the second round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2001 NFL draft, and earned the starting job under center for the Cowboys for the 2003 season. Carter played in 15 Dallas games in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. In 2003, during which he started all 16 games, he led the Cowboys to the playoffs. In 2004, he played for the New York Jets. During his NFL career, which includes four seasons, Carter completed 542 of 960 passes for 6337 yards, 32 for touchdowns. He rushed for 518 yards and 3 touchdowns.

About the addition of Quincy Carter, Wings' Head Coach Jon Norris said, "This is a great thing for the Battle Wings and their fans. Quincy is well known throughout this area from his time as a Cowboy. He is a fine quarterback, a quick learner, and a fan's football player." Norris continued, "Not only will he draw fans to the arena football game, but he has already begun studying the game mechanics, and will quickly demonstrate to everyone how he can comfortably adapt his outstanding athletic abilities to the indoor game. And that means Battle Wings' victories."

When asked why af2, Carter responded, "I've watched the game from the beginning of the Dallas Desperados." (Cowboys owner Jerry Jones also owns the AFL Desperados. The Cowboys and Desperados share practice facilities at Valley Ranch) "It is perfect for my skills. I know quite a few players who have moved from the outdoor game to the AFL and af2, and even more that have moved from arena football to the outdoor game. I see af2 as a place to begin the process of getting back to the National Football League."

"Quincy coming here is exactly the message the Battle Wings want to send out to football players everywhere," Norris said. "We want to be known as a place for aspiring NFL players to develop and hone their skills getting ready for the NFL. If this continues, Bossier-Shreveport fans will see quite a few stars come through town just as they saw future baseball stars in Shreveport with the Double A Captains."

The 2007 Wings’ training camp begins mid-March when 35 roster players will show up getting ready for April 7th when the Wings open the season at the CenturyTel Center against the af2 expansion Ft. Wayne Fusion. Tickets are available by calling 318-746-8755.
