The Eagles were effective running the ball because Ferguson was getting blown off the ball. I counted at least 5 plays where he got pushed at least 7 yards downfield against one one one blocking.
Is that his fault? Yes, There's really no excuse. Is it also the staff's fault because they expected a NT who barely goes three bills to be an every down player? Yes, when you look at the size and rotation of other 3-4 team's NT.
The bottom line is that the players are limited by their physical ability, coaches are limited by their mental ability. A great coach can mask the liability but players, no matter the talent, can never mask scheme liabilities.
Is it any wonder that in the second half of the season teams with innovative staffs like Philadelphia and New Orleans have abused the Cowboys while coaches on the hotseat like Atlanta and New York have lost?
