You never have an absolute rule about the draft. Never. Flexibility is always the backbone of any draft strategy.
Having said that, Jerry and this FO draft for one thing and one thing only - to sell merch and tickets and offense sells more merch and tickets than defense. The Cleveland Browns are structured the exact opposite of the Cowboys and they are putrid to watch. An offensive show at least gets ratings, something a team like the Browns can’t achieve no matter how hard their defense is, and offensive shows sell merch to sucker fans. Jerry has been rinsing and repeating this strategy ever since he got Tony Romo to put butts in the seat of his new stadium and saw his profit margins soar accordingly
