First lemme state that I really can't stand Carl Banks...that entire group of ex Giants, coach included, carry a really arrogant attitude...and ya know, there's one reason for it, Lawrence Taylor. Without him, they were nothing more than a good team.

anyway...back to the point at hand...the host asked a good question..."When the Cowboys go with their two TE set with Witten and Bennett, how will the Giants deal with it because it has to be tough to defend two pass catching TE's"

Banks responded "The Cowboys only have one (his emphasis was on the word "one") pass catching TE. Bennett is a two year guy who hasn't done much yet. Bennett is their fifth option any time he's on the field."

I sure do hope the Giants are thinking the same way.

If you base your opinion on whether someone is a "pass catching tight end" based solely on the production in their very short NFL career, then yes you have to agree with him.

If you base it on common sense and knowledge of the player's abilities and function within the offense, then no you have to think he's just being dense.

By the way, that a TE behind Jason Witten had 21 catches in 17 games speaks volumes about his pass catching ability. How anyone could use that as a slight against him, is beyond me.

I fully understand your point of view but the host was asking a question based on his ability.

It's like walking under a safe and saying "Hey, well I've never been hit on the head by a falling safe, so who cares" and dismissing the danger completely.

It was more Bank's disdain...ya know, that Parcells crap "Let's not break out the anointing oils yet"

Clearly Bennett is a threat. The question was a good one. He simply blew it off by saying Bennett is only an option after Romo has gone through his reads of "Williams, Felix Jones, Witten, and Crayton" (Banks' words, not mine)

Bennett has proven to be a threat, he just doesn't have a ton of catches in regular season games yet. If he wasn't a pass catching threat, Jacksonville would have put a lb on him instead of a corner. Other teams, Giants included, know better than to take him lightly. I wish the Giants thought like Banks so we could exploit that all game, but they are much smarter than that. And watch tape of the opposition. I doubt Banks has seen much or researched much about Bennett.

That wasn't the question asked by the host.

And I'm willing to bet that on many plays when Bennett is on the field, he is more than the fifth option.

If so, he'd never catch a pass...I'm going to assume, that on any give play, Williams, Jones, Witten, Crayton will be open. That being the case, Bennett would never see the ball.
