"We didn't blitz that much"--Bill Parcells

FWIW, hence my two cents, Fuzzy is completely correct on his reasoning. Anything more than the defensive line penetrating behind the LOS is technically a blitz.

so what if according to the true definition we are blitzing someone on every play?

the blitz is sometimes coming from the right the left or the middle.
Well, apparently Bill Parcells disagrees with the "true definition." This means one of two things.

1) The "true defintion" is wrong.

OR

2) You're misreading the "true definition."

Take your pick.

give his exact quote in context then well talk. if he said we didnt blitz more than we normally do it could easily be construed he was saying more blitzers instead of your interpretation of more times.

This definition seems to support both of your arguements. Hopefully it helps you settle on a happy medium. It does seem like the best definition I've seen so far.

About half way down the first sentence under the Experience Helps heading.
Here's the quote:
By definition, a blitz occurs either when a defender who isn't on the line of scrimmage rushes the quarterback or more than four players rush the passer.
Eh...sometimes OLBs start off the line of scrimmage to disguise the rush. This isn't blitzing. That leaves the 5+ men part.

My God. Read the first post in this thread. You can fight logic all you want but it gets you nowhere.

If a corner or a saftey come it's a blitz though all day long ... no matter how many come.

The definition wasn't perfect but it's not completely dependent on a set number coming either ... and there is truth in that.

If a corner or safety rushes the passer and the LB goes into coverage that is more akin to a zone blitz, which is not technically a blitz.

If this is true, then please do. have him qualify the definition.

Its true, I am one of the moderators of the about.com football forum. I will get back with you tommorrow with his answer

we are just a good defense.

Actually a zoneblitz is when a LB blitzes and a dlineman drops into coverage normally on the other side of the formation. it was used to hose WCO blocking schemes.

linebackers often go into coverage.

A zone blitz can be where a LB OR a safety OR a CB rushes and a lineman drops into coverage. Do I have to teach you everything?

beautiful. i have a feeling that were both right after the most recent definition. if the OLB lines up on the los then its not a blitz but if hes back then hes not.

thus when ware rushed from the slot he was blitzing but when he was tight on the end he wasnt.

A DB is either a safety or a cornerback. Wow, you're learning a lot today!

well perhaps you should learn that when a LB drops into coverage and a db blitzes that ISNT a zone blitz like you said it was.

YOURE WRONG, DEAL WITH IT
