When? This is exactly what Butch and Campo got nailed with in 1995. We'd have a linebacker covering the other team's best receiver lined up in the slot and Deion would be covering the TE lined up wide. It was idiotic and predictable. Davis leads to Campo and Campo leads to Zimmer and Zimmer leads to Suffering and Suffering leads to the Dark Side.

It's good in theory - not letting the offense dictate to you how you will play.

But, it just makes it so easy for the offense to get whatever matchup they want - whenever they want. Washington nailed us with it last year - shockingly, we assigned Newman to Moss almost exclusively this year. Moss was shut down. We did the same thing to Smith. Smith was shut down.

I think I can accept the offense dictating to the defense if it means the QB is forced to go away from his comfort zone more, or his #1 receiver. Everyone in the world knew where Kitna was going when Glenn was lined up on Williams - everyone except the people who matter.

No, Springs was among the lowest -- only 34 percent of the passes against him were to No. 1 receivers.

Yes, and Dre Bly was the highest in 2005.

Springs plays mostly the Right CB spot. Typically teams like to place their best WR's over on the other side of the field since most QB's are right handed and they are not having to throw across the field to get the ball to their best WR.

This is one of the great characteristics of Parcells's defense.

Teams go out of their way to create matchup problems. They motion receivers and have different formations in order to achieve favorable matchups.

With a Parcells defense all you have to do is walk your guy right out to a position that matches him up well, because Parcells isn't going to change his formation to "fix" the matchup problem.

Adam mentioned a few times we've done it in the past. Watch those games. When we've done it, it's worked amazingly. When we don't, we get ridiculous matchups like A. Glenn on Roy Williams (there's nearly a 10 inch difference there).
And yet A. Glenn was able to matchup well against Plaxico Burress in the Giants game last year where I believe Glenn was able to get an INT defending him and Plax horsecollared him.

Roy Williams is a better receiver than Plax, but let's not make it about height. A. Glenn has been a pretty good DB for most of his career. He just got beat along with the rest of the secondary.

Yeah. Big Game Stevens. He's been great for the Seahawks. Post-season especially.

No, because Newman always shuts down his man when he shadows them. Hall usually gets torched.

I never said that. I said Johnson wasn't as bad as people claimed.

too bad he couldn't "shadow" RW (det) this past Sunday!;)

Glenn doesn't look like half the CB he was last year.

I can't for the life of me remember this play, but the idea of Eli Manning isn't shocking regardless of the matchup.

When you have a DB giving up nearly one foot to a receiver it most certainly creates a matchup problem. When I see Jason Witten in the slot against a nickel CB I start jumping up and down with glee.

This is part of the reason we brought A. Henry in -- to matchup against some of the taller receivers in our division (Burress and Owens at the time).

Newman followed Steve Smith for the majority of the Carolina game.

Both years it seemed... And during the Commanders game it seemed like he shadowed Moss.

Is it bad that people are signing Seattle FB Mack Strong up for their fantasy football teams as a receiver?
