We simply disagree whether it was actually implemented then or now. I don't think it was because we didn't have the personnel. You think it was but we just didn't have the personnel. Its just semantics.

We had the personnel...........their abilites within the formation is something different........ therein lies you confusion.

By this logic you could stick me in there and say we had the personnel. Obviously we wouldn't.

I took quite a beating from some posters about the TE position for the past 3 seasons.

I wanted the Cowboys to draft Heath Miller in 2005. It was pretty evident that Dan Campbell was breaking down.

I made this Fasano comment"Don't worry guys Jason Witten, Sean Ryan, Tony Curtis and Anthony Fasano will get the job done this season.http://dallascowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49304&page=2&highlight=Fasano almost 2 months before the draft.

Nice foresight.

Those that paid close attention know that the Cowboys BASE OFFENSE the past few years has been the two TE set as long as Dan Campbell has been healthy. I don't know how that is subject to debate to anyone that has really watched them, and I'm through arguing about that, although I look forward to Adam's analysis of all of the plays of the 2005 year, whenever he does that.

My very confident prediction is that Adam's review will demonstrate the two TE personnel package was the most common package on 1st and second down by a long margin and the most common package overall. Anyone think otherwise?

Just for fun I just watched the 05 game against the Panthers. I only watched the first half. I'm not sure if Dan Campbell was healthy for that game, so this may not be the best example. If he was healthy he wasn't on the field much.

In any event, we lined up with 2 TEs on the field in 5 of 38 plays in the first half. Three of those plays had Witten lined up as a FB. One had Witten lined up in the slot. The fifth was a "max protection" line up. By comparison we used a 3 WR set with either 1 or no TEs 18 of those 38 plays. The rest were pretty much I formations with one TE.

I know this is a very small sample size, but it was just the first game I picked to re-watch. Maybe tonight I'll watch some more. I've got to run now.

I was one of the ones that was slamming on your for the Heather Miller comment, but it wasn't so much that TE wasn't a need, just that a pass catching stretch the field type TE that wasn't as good of an inline blocker as Cambell wasn't a need. Heath was going to go in the first round, and I can't remember the last time a TE was taken in the first that was a good blocker. TEs that can Run block are like Guards, not first round material.

I think everything else you said in this thread is dead on. As for the talk by other posters that we didn't run a two TE base, because that person didn't like the TEs that we were putting out there, I think at some point people just need to admit that they were completely wrong and move on.

If there wasn't a change in philosophy there wouldn't have been a need.

I wouldn't call it a change in philosophy, the philosophy is still the same as it was last year, a 2-TE offense is to confuse the opposing D so that they dont' know if it's going to be a run or a pass, just now we're including 2 pass-receiving threats at TE instead of just 1, so that in the nickel, an obvious passing situation, it presents undesirable matchups for opposing Ds, as we have read, either double both To and Glenn, and risk Witten going singly up against a LB, AND Fasano, or just double one, and both TO and Glenn eat up single-coverage, the philosophy is still the same, just it's being tinkered with
