In coalition with this thread - http://cowboyszone.com/threads/dt-is-our-1-need.284384/

#16 - Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh.

Fills our biggest need with the best player not only on the board, but at the position. No-brainer.

#17-#21 (won't predict an exact spot.... trade up for our 2nd round, 4th round and 2015 5th round) - Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State.

Fills our second biggest need (a second DT), with an ultra-high upside player. It'll be costly, but it's absolutely worth it. This (or a free-agent like Henry Melton) is the only way I can conceive us having a shot this upcoming season at a post-season run.

#78 - Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State.

I love Smith/Frederick/Free. Between Bernadeau (proven) and Leary (upside) one will emerge as a worthy G for the next few seasons, and Jackson can compete/back up the other. With his talent he could conceivably start this season. A youth line of Smith/Leary/Frederick/Jackson/Free is very exciting and enticing!

#146 - Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia.

As I've posted a dozen times, Aaron Murray, if in the right situation, will emerge as a franchise QB in short order, a la Nick Foles. I'd be willing to spend a 7th to get up earlier and secure. Trust me, we want him with a star on his helmet.

We'd be lucky if our 2nd, 4th, and '15 5th got us into the early 2nd....it sure isn't getting us back into the mid 1st.......not to mention how bad of an idea it would be to trade resources to move up for a 1 tech.

And we'll just agree to disagree on Murray. I'll honestly be shocked if he ever makes it as a full time starter in the NFL.

In most drafts you're right, it'd take more to move back up into the 1st. However, in this class many teams are trying to get extra picks. It may take this years 6th instead of next years 5th

Marenelli, Jerry, and Stephen have all said that you don't draft 1 tech DTS in the first round And that you can find them later. So why would they trade up to get Jernigan?

Sure, i get that it's a buyers market in a deep draft, but you're at like rock bottom, the team's gm is drunk, low price. There's no way we aren't giving up both our 2nd and 3rd to move back up in the mid 1st. Unless we trade next year's 2nd. But either way no.

There is too much talent in the 2nd/3rd rounds to be trading up. I would be more inclined to trade down in the 1st. There's a good chance that Donald is available at a pick lower than #16. About 1/2 of the teams run a 3-4 and they won't draft him in the 1st round. I realize that once fans lock onto a player, they get scared that everybody is going to draft that player earlier, but he ranked at #22 by NFLDS and I think that the most likely are for him if the Cowboys don't take him at #16. There's really no consensus on the top 4 DTs. They could go in any order.

Gabe Jackson is OK, but I like several of the other mid round Guards better.

I don''t think Murray would have been drafted higher than the 3rd round without the injury. I feel the injury will drop him more than a round.

In a deep draft teams are going to take horrendous value for the sake of an extra 4th? No chance.

I'd rather keep my picks than trade up for Jernigan.

Hypothetically, if we were to draft Donald and trade back into the mid 1st i'd rather it be for an impact guy not a 1 Tech DT.

I dont see anyone who would be still be available worth trading that far up

If you watch our games you'll see the majority of our issues are resulting from our weak DT's, I don't care if their 1 tech or 3 billion tech (joke). This is the root of our problem. It doesn't matter who is in our secondary, or really even who our pass rushers are, if we can not get talent & production at DT.
