Randle-El's Contract Info

I believe they're paid in one lump sum but the cap hit is prorated. If he's cut the team takes a hit for the remainder. The bonus was $11.5 MM over 7 years. If they cut after three years they take a $7MM hit. If they keep him they take $5MM hit.

I sure hope he's worth it. [/sarcasm]

If they cut him after 3 years the hit would be around 5M, as around 7M would have already been paid. I believe.

Ok 11.5 divided by 7 comes out to a 1.6million cap per year

So after playing 3 years he would burn up 4.8 million of his bonus his 4th year it is cheaper to keep him even at the 4 million base salary he will have a cap charge of 5.6million if you release him before (usually June 1st) he would cost you more than his cap charge on keeping him at 6.7 million if you wait till the magical date of splitting the cost over 2 years you save 750k that year but burn 3.35m the next year so the 4th year odds are he will be kept

The 5th year is 50/50 if you keep him a cap charge of 6.1 million you cut him you save 1 million because he has 5.1 million in bonus cap hit if you split that over 2 years that is 2.25mil roughly saving you 4 million in the current year and a more manageable cap hit the next year

Ok that is enough from me

Contracts signed this year will have a proration for bonuses for 5 years. Not the duration of the contract. Next year it will be 6 years. Hope that helps.

No Danny Boy is a smart man for that. This way the first couple years we see how Randle El fits into our system, and if we think we should continue with him. And it might not be the most bang for your buck, but Danny has alot of bucks, and with the way we think the cap is only going to increase, it was a very smart move.

You DO ralize that you still have to pay him whether or not he works out right?

Well if you prorate at 5 years (as you say) then that would be the case.

No, after the first 3 years it will be just below $5 MM. That means the cap hit will be 7 MM after year three. You guys have locked yourselves into this contract for at least 5 years at a very expensive 4th and 5th year. Maybe 1 TD a year is worth that much to you. Not my cup of tea, though.

Read my post directly above yours. It prorates out to 2.3M per year (5 years). Multiply that by 3 years and you get 6.9M off the books. 4.6M remaining owed.

Already edited.

The question is does he make the Commanders a better team, not is whether we paid too much for him. And right now, he makes us better than we were.

This method is all well and good...until one of those guys gets injured. Then the skins are in a pickle.

You can say that about any team. What if the Patriots lose Brady, or the Steelers lose Big Ben, Falcolns-Vick, Colts-Manning? See what I mean?

Yeah those guys are franchise players making big bucks... They're not Antwan Randle-El

No one's saying Randle-El is the greatest WR ever, all I'm saying is the move should move us one step closer to the SuperBowl.

The thing that I don't really get with Randle-El and the Commanders...

One of the reasons that you want him on you team is because of his punt return abilities and quickness..

But you already have Santana Moss who is probably better in both areas.. so now you have Moss and Moss Light... great for injury protection, and certainly smaller quicker receivers are becoming a trend.. but it will be interesting to see if having two of these guys is better than having one and then a bigger posession type guy who can go over the middle. .. Yes.. I know you still have Cooley..

I don't know.. maybe Lloyd can be the middle guy and red zone threat.. but I don't really see him that way.

Randle-El's longest catch up until this year was 39 yards.. so I'm not even sure if he is a deep threat, with a career average of 12.9 yards. Also I can't believe that he is a great blocker at his size, so with Moss and him both on the field you reduce yardage for Portis...

I don't know.. I guess we shall see.. I'm sure there is some method to the madness.

Lloyd and Randle-El is better than Patten, Jacobs and Brown. So in other words, we've improved.

I have to admit thats an improvement. The receiving corps went from a solid D to a B-.

Ive always said that the SKINs have to do this to stay competitive...if they didnt sign FREE AGENTS they would have BELOW AVERAGE talent up and down the roster and if they didnt OVERPAY for guys like RANDLE EL he would be in CHICAGO right now!!!

If I'ma Skins fan I really have to be worried about a guy who turned down to play in his HOMETOWN for a cpl of million more!

I like the EL signing only because it takes "HI RISK INJURY" PR duties off MOSS!!! thats a strong move but I would think u could find an effective punt returner in middle rounds of the draft!
