At least, that is how I understand the way these suspensions go. You can't actually be suspended until you are under contract. Somebody tell me if I am incorrect here.

His suspension runs now. He would be able to sign with someone at anytime, but can't play until Week 14. He doesn't have to be on a team to be suspended, you just can't retire to get around it like Brent.

The NFL usually doesn't announce suspensions until they have been through the appeal process. That is why a February incident is just getting announced.
