Random Dez Thought

Totally random, but I thought it after seeing Dez tackled yesterday, and was curious if anyone else thinks this.

Is Dez one of the clumsiest athletic guys in the NFL?

What I mean is that he always looks so awkward and out of control and like he is flailing around when he gets tackled. I know he is fighting for yards, but he just looks stiff or something at times. Anyone else think so? No?

If there's one word that doesn't come to mind when watching Dez play, it's "clumsy".

Agree to disagree on this one.

Ok, perhaps not the right word. Maybe stiff is the right word? No one should misunderstand me. I'm a huge Dez fan and think he's a beast. Give me one receiver in the NFL and Dez is on my top 3 list. But man he looks awkward at times when he is getting tackled, and trying to go somewhere after a catch.

Dez runs and fights for YAC with unique violence . He will fight you until the play is over and often even after that. I think its reading to much into it. The kid has unhuman body control and i believe any contortions he makes with his body is with purpose.

Not that I agree about him looking "clumsy" but part of it might be from all the short passes we throw to him in the hopes of him breaking one. And I don't think he really is this amazing "run after the catch" guy that many seem to think he is.

Aside from his TD, his other 5 catches yesterday got him just 21 yards. He's not a quick-twitch guy like Beasley or Dunbar.

Violence may be the word I'm looking for. I think where I would mildly disagree is with the thought that he is always purposeful in the movements he makes. I think that "violent" nature sometimes leads to bad decisions, whether it is retreating and giving away yardage (in the desire to gain more), or the occasional fumble we have seen over the years because he wanted that 1 more yard. It almost looks at times like he is hand fighting the defender on his way down.

Yea, I've already agreed that I chose the wrong word with "clumsy." I like the word that someone suggested a moment ago. "Violent" is probably a better word. I think that "extra" fight sometimes makes him go down really hard, or awkwardly.

RCW... Uhmmm nope. Now Tony's new running style OTH ... See what I did there, turned a Dez thread into a bash Romo thread. It's as easy as 1, 2 well you know the rest.

Not at all. Witten is clumsy looking. Dez is anything but.

Now, Witt amazes me because he definitely looks "stiff" and yet he can sometimes put a move on a guy. I look at Witt sometimes and wonder how he ever gets open.

I've been frustrated with Romo plenty of times, but not yesterday (other than the pick 6). I think that was one of the best games Tony has ever played. He was a champ after the pick and especially down the wire. Great game by him.

He's so slow that guys just run past him and miss lol

Some guys are deceptively fast...Witten is deceptively slow

I think Murray is a bit clumsy.

Murray makes guys miss in close space (gets him that yard or 5 when it looks like there is nothing), but can't help but find a defender when he is in open space :)

Yeah, and we need to protect him from those situations a bit more. Short passes to Dez in the middle of the field are an injury waiting to happen, because he'll fight for every inch while defenders are coming at him from every direction.

And what's the big reward we're looking for? How often does Dez actually take a short pass, break a tackle or 2, and turn it into a huge gain? It's usually just a 5-yard gain or so while we all hold our breath hoping he doesn't get hurt.

I think a lot of people in this thread do not know what the word clumsy means....

He also has a 53 yard td if he isn't interfered with.

When it comes to twitches... Dez is up there with the best of them.

He was blazing down the field on that td double move.

I think some people need to read the thread before responding :) .... the word clumsy had already been rejected before you posted. :)

I was referring more to his ability in the open field with the ball in his hands. He usually doesn't do much with those short completions.

Different ballgame than beating a CB on a deeper route.

Well most people don't usually break those for huge yards.

That quick pass to the wr is essentially a run. Get you 5 yards and keeps you ahead of the chains.
