Random Draft Thoughts

I dont know if you guys are ready the Draft but I'm just ready for next Thursday night to get here. I think a lot of us are just trying to think of everything in the worst case scenario, well this thread is about the best case scenario. I'm not saying a top tackle will be on the board or anything but for guys like Warmack, Cooper, Richardson etc being available at 18.

Things I think that WILL play to our advantage:
1. The Raiders will trade down with either San Diego or Miami, which will take away 1 team who may have snagged a guard at their original selections. Reggie McKenzie is trying to rebuild a once proud franchise and they need picks to do that right. @NFLDraftBites: #Dolphins Trade up for Left Tackle. Rookie Deal- 4 Yrs 16 M w/ Option. Lock em up longterm in 4 Years. Blindside blocker for 'Tannehill Era'

2. Cleveland as long as Milliner is gone will probably in all likelyhood follow suit. Word out of Cleveland is they love Milliner and Mingo is 2nd. Mingo is still possible in a trade down with SD, Miami, or New Orleans.

3. If Geno goes in the top 4 then don't be suprised to see a 2nd QB go in the top 10. Teams like Arizona, Buffalo and the Jets would rather take a chance on 1st round QB and get them with a low cap number for 5 years then rake out big money every year for scrubs. They won't want to continue adding to their teams dead money and would prolly risk taking a chance high.

4. Defensive backs-There is gonna be a run on DB's in this first round, one spot in this draft I see it is from pick 10-16. Now I'm not saying the top 6 corners are going 10-16 but I can see Tenn, Carolina, Tampa, New Orleans and St Louis going corner or safety at those picks.

5. DJ Fluker-This guy honestly could go before pick 18. Don't laugh because teams value Tackles more than guards. If SD or Miami stay put he could be the pick and the wildcard could be the Bengals trading up to get him because they have 2 second round picks, and this way they wouldn't have to pay Andre Smith and they have him for 5 years at a lower cap number. @NFLDraftBites: #Bengals Mike Brown realization D.J. Fluker won't be avail 21. Notoriously cheap, trade up or hand Andre Smith Jr 15 Million guaranteed?

6. Kenny Vaccaro-In all honesty I don't think they would take him at 18 if we were wiped out. He can go as high as 10 in this draft or as low as 28 as well. I hope he's gone when we get on the clock and the closer we get the better it is looking he could be gone. @nfldraftscout: Talked to a lot of NFL contacts today for mock draft prep. Kenny Vaccaro a "top 15 lock."

7. WR's-this position could honestly be the one position that can help us the most by pushing better talent down. I love Tavon and in fact I was in the stadium the day he scored his first touchdown and I knew then the kid was "Special" and I hope for the sake of our team he goes top 10. If he goes in the top 10, It in all likelyhood will push Patterson up hopefully to St. Louis or Pburgh. But the only downside to Patterson is many teams question immaturity and may force him down. @NFLDraftBites: Trashed Hotel Room saga- Heard it was Cordarrelle Patterson. Don't mean to spread rumors, but that's what I've been told...

8. Runs- I mentioned runs on corners before but I think late in the 1st and early 2 there will be another on that position. QB's, for teams who missed out in the 1st will do the same as I mentioned before and take chance on guys with low cap numbers instead of overpaying.

9. Tyler Eifert- He's another wildcard that some don't see really high but some do. I've heard some mention him and Tampa Bay which honestly sounds like a good fit, plus it forces division rival to look at 2nd tier guys to be the heir to Gonzalez.

Those are just some of my ramblings feel free to dissect and throw me to the wolves but that's just the way I see this thing going down next Thursday, Friday and into Saturday.

All makes sense until the DJ Fluker line, he is really another tier lower is my only problem, if a coach is on the hot seat it will be hard to choose him as he will struggle IMO this rookie year.
I agree on the Vaccarro comment as well please make sure he is not an option for us at 18 as I feel that even in the third rd we might be able to get a starter with this deep safety class.
TE's in this draft are awesome, I only hope we do not see any of the top 5 in the NFCeast, I think last year we saw Witten jump the shark [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark] and I really did not see enough of Hanna to make a informed decision on him.

with a rookie salary cap, I expect to see quite a few trades as we saw last year.

I could see a trade between us and Cincy to get Fluker. I think I read that the Giants like Fluker.

I don't see Oakland trading with SD unless the Chargers give up a ton.

Why wouldnt we take Fluker?we need a right tackle too.

Thanks, Questfor6. Interesting read and a good thread.

I'd love to see Fluker go before 18.

Can't wait for next Thursday.

I don't think he fits what Callahan is trying to do. Seems he wants more athletic lineman. Fluker is a mauler and a little slow footed. I think they sign Winston after the draft to play RT.

If some how, two QBs went before 18, we would be in a good position.

I'm still expecting at least two teams to move into the top 20 for a QB. Just think 'Christian Ponder.' There are too many QB-hungry teams out there. Some couple will pop up and take a second round talent they like in the first. It's a small concession relative to what it takes to actually move up into the top 5 to find your starter at that position.

One of the OGs will probably be there. Just not sure it's the one we want, or that we'd necessarily take an OG in the first if there's a DL option available.

Yeah I see them dealing more with Cleveland than Oakland myself, no team likes to trade with divisional foes but Philly did trade with us when we came back up for Spencer.
