Random Thought. Joe Thomas at SS?

6-1 227 lbs. The guy looks like a safety out there anyway. He is a beast, making plays everywhere. This is the type of guy we need patroling the middle of the field. Richards could turn this guy into a stud. My only concern would be in coverage. Might be a liability there.

I'd rather just go sign a safety.

Nothing against Thomas, but we have depth at LB for the first time in many, many years. I'd rather not rob Peter to pay Paul and just keep Thomas where he's succeeding.

Yup. Keep him at WOLB. I would bet he will see some starts there at some point this year.

Thomas could most likely man the position for two games until Woods is back in the lineup. All is well and the sky is not falling.

And then you just create a gap at LB. No need for us to get cute; if we need a safety, get a safety. There's a ton on the market.

Sound reasoning. The move would have to be more of a permanent one if he was capable.

Far less random though... Byron Jones @ SS until Woods comes back

The people that maintain the Cowboys public roster are lazy and the weights are rarely accurate. The 227 was his exact draft weight. He is bigger now.

Having said that, on high probability of run situations, they could have him at SS but they would need a DB there for passing situations.

In the final 3rd of last season they played Frazier at SS when they expected run and Byron Jones on all other snaps. The split was about 70/30 Jones/Frazier.

Marinelli said early in camp that he thinks they'll play Nickel in situations where they played Dime in the past because they now have better coverage LBs.

Exactly, don't fix what isn't broken.

SMH LOL
Hey let’s take two weeks and teach a linebacker how to play safety. Make him faster with new cleats. Brilliant!
