Since my first attempt at "scattershooting" seemed to meet with approval, and since some other things have come up to occupy my attention, I thought I'd take another shot at it:

1-- Chicken Littles, take note...

Those of you pressing the panic button because Jerry hasn't gone out and made any flashy signings really must not have been paying attention, because both he and son Stephen told us repeatedly in the weeks leading up to free agency that the Cowboys would NOT be chasing after the big ticket free agents... and yet, even though we were told how this was gonna play out, some of you are STILL going off the deep end...

Calm down, folks...

2-- Vacation time??

I have read that Jerry's on vacation down in St. Bart's, Stephen's on vacation in Mexico, Bill's on vacation in Florida... this strikes me as odd, since this is generally the time when free agents are being signed at a frenzied pace... if I know that, Jerry and Bill know that...

This tells me that their relative inaction early on was part of their master plan, that they intend to ride out the first wave of megadeals, then sit back and see what's left... the reason for doing that is to maximize their free agent dollars... though they did make a couple-three signings early on, those guys signed reasonable deals...

Sadly, I think part of the reason for that is that approach they planned on pursuing Terrell Owens seriously, and wanted to make sure they had enough cap room to get the job done...

3-- Kickers, kickers, kickers...

Randy Galloway reported that Mike Vanderjagt paid a quick, surprise visit to Dallas on Wednesday... hmmmm, with Jerry and Stephen Jones, and Bill Parcells, all out of town, I wonder who he met with?? LOL...

There was another report, this one from Adam Schefter, that the Boys were fixing to give an offer sheet to RFA Josh Brown from the Seahawks...

This tells me a number of things-- first, that they probably aren't interested in Adam Vinatieri, and the reason for that would be the amount of money he wants... second, though, this tells me that they ARE still seriously involved in bringing in a solid kicker, and this is their plan B (Matt Bryant or Ryan Longwell being plan A)...

And even if plan B doesn't work, there's still no reason to despair, a likely plan C might be Olindo Mare, once he's released from the Dolphins (which most observers of the NFL feel is a near-certainty)...

4-- Jason Fabini...

This guy was the first player the Boys brought in for a look-see, and he would fit a team need (right tackle)... as another of Bill's old players, you'd think he'd be a logical fit, and apparently the Boys thought so too, yet the reports are that the Cowboys chose not to make him an offer before he left town...

This makes me wonder if he failed to pass that physical... the only other possible explanation that I can see is that his contract demands were completely outrageous, and as a journeyman player at best, I rather doubt that he was asking for top dollar...

5) Ryan Hannam...

There were reports that the Boys were going to bring him in for a visit, and he makes some sense too (with Dan Campbell off to Detroit, the Boys need a blocking TE), but I never saw a confirmation that he did indeed come to visit... did he??

6-- Wide receivers...

And now, for the big finish... before I comment, you all know how I dislike Terrell Owens, but it is my fondest wish that this thread not be turned into another TO argument... if you like him, fine, I don't... at the same time, I realize he's likely to wind up in Dallas...

I think my ideal scenario here would be to bring back Key, once he's set his market value, then sign Eric Moulds if the Bills do indeed ultimately release him... then, go for a WR like Martin Nance (there are other options) in the second round... this would give the Boys a depth chart of Keyshawn, Terry Glenn, Moulds, Patrick Crayton and Martin Nance or another draftee...

While this WR corps would be a little old, it would be a solid group, I think...

OK, I think that's everything I've thought about the last day or so, LOL... have at me...

Please, keeep them coming! I get sooooo tired of all the mass hysteria!

I do too, milady, but after all these years prowling message boards, I have found that it is an utterly predictable phenomenon...

Though tiring, it does serve one useful benefit-- pay attention to who's always starting that nonsense, and you'll know who you can safely ignore as having little football knowledge... the flip side is that the guys who do NOT go off the deep end tend to be your more knowledgeable fans...

IOW, these Chicken Little threads help to separate the posters with a valuable contribution to make from the ones who don't...

You know I am starting to see that. I will say that I truly love this forum though. I frequent it often, and find I can get so much of my Cowboy news in one place. As for contributing to message boards, I am some what new. I have been a HUGH Cowboy fan since I was around 5 years old. Let's just say I am closing out my thirties (wink), so I am no spring chicken as a fan. I think the biggest thing I am having to get use to, is how many people jump on and off the bandwagon. I may not like some of the decisions the Cowboys have made over the years, or the low years, but one thing I can say is I just don't jump from one extreme to the other. I am also not one to question every little move made by the organization, as they have proven to be fairly consistent.

Not sure, but didn't Pierce have reconstructive knee surgery? In any case, there could be injury concerns with Pierce.

As for S. Ryan, I think he could have made the 53-man roster last season had he not gotten injured. He was drafted to be a blocking TE, so maybe he works out.

I know we gave a Curtis a pretty bid signing bonus as an UDFA, so we must have liked him. But I don't know how his progress is going . . . .

He had some kind of injury...might have been knee...but you are absolutely correct my friend there is a bit of a medical risk there

I like both of 'em too, and I won't be crushed if the Boys don't make a play for Hannam... I was just wondering what came of all that...
