This is why it hurt so bad, that catch that wasn't in the Green Bay game last January.

Yes, I'm revisiting that. I probably think about it every day.

I don't know what went right last year. It seemed like last year was the anomaly in a long stretch of mediocre years for this team. When the 2014 pre-season ended, I told my son I didn't think they'd win 5 games. They surprised me, and it was exciting. Week after week...they didn't just win games; they played well.

I thought we had the horses to go all the way with that team in 2014. I know we weren't clicking on all cylinders for 56 minutes of that Green Bay game, but there are times when that happens with any team...and it all comes down to one big play at the right time. The Patriots had to depend on Russell Wilson throwing an ill-timed interception to win the Super Bowl. We had the big play in the Green Bay game, but the right call wasn't made (in my opinion), and our hopes were ended on the Green Bay 1-yard line.

Some thought we could repeat the success of 2014, but I lowered my expectations greatly when we didn't draft a running back to replace Demarco Murray. I really thought we would; when we didn't, I was a bit stunned. That's when I started to feel that what happened in 2014 wouldn't happen again.

In addition, now we have all these players who are injured, and we really just don't look that good out there. It's not going to be easy to leave my house this week after we lost to the 0-3 Saints. Cowboy fans know we were decimated after losing so many people, but that won't matter to my family, friends, and neighbors. All that will matter to them is, they beat us. And they did, all the way. I have no excuse to offer for it.

So, I was sitting there after the game, thinking again about the catch that wasn't last January. And how large that looms, especially now....because I just don't see us getting that far this year, even if we did manage to eke out an 8-8 season and go to the playoffs. (Prove me wrong, Cowboys, please.)

One last note: I'm constantly posting that I don't like negative nancies... I don't, and I'm not trying to do that here. I'm not going to post "We're done!" or "This team is stupid!" .. Absolutely not, they're my team, and I would never call them stupid...and I won't proclaim it over until it is over. (RIP, Yogi Berra.) So, don't think I'm giving up here...that's not what this is about. Just lamenting that the window of opportunity doesn't stay open forever, and I just wonder if we missed our best chance due to a bad call on January 11, 2015.

It still hurts, and I think of it every day.

Good post. I feel likewise. I was optimisitc about this season. Even losing Romo and Dez I felt our defense was good enough to hang in there until those two get back. But they're not. In fact this defense has been our albatross for years. There is no rebuild just overpaid players and mediocre guys like Wilcox.

You're right last season was special and it was stolen away. I hoped that this season would erase the sting but some things hurt forever. Ask a Browns fan about the Byner fumble. Perennial winning teams don't get haunted because every year they have a real shot. Injuries have already killed our 2015 season.

I'm mad and depressed about it

The fat lady ain't singing but she's is warming up............

I'm not calling it over until I see what happens in the next two games. I already have a good idea about next weeks outcome. But the game in NY is going to be the earliest must win scenario I can recall us ever being in. And unless they pull off an upset over Seattle. Philly will be another must win. So yes. There is still a faint glimmer of hope.

Also not going to dwell on the past. First of all. We didn't lose last year just becuase of one bad call. There were other missed opportunities, Murray fumble. And I think we all know what would have happened with Aaron Rodgers still having plenty of time left to drive down and score on that defense. Plus. We went much further last year than any of us expected when the season started.
Injuries may just ruin this promising season. Bright side? If things do go the worst possible route. We'll get a higher pick and we still have a lot of young talent that's only going to improve over the offseason. Hard to think that way right now. But this window isn't quite shut.

I feel the same way. This season unfortunately is already over. It ended on September 20th. By the time Tony comes back we'd have to win every game left on the schedule and that's just not going to happen. Maybe we have better luck next year.

I can tell you what's going to happen in the next game. It's quite graphic.

Its not "being negative" to step outside and look up at the sky filled with clouds and lighting and hear thunder and conclude it's probably about to rain.

Its common sense and I think the forecast is high for rain of our boys, you can only overcome so many injuries in this era of football.

It is what it is....depressing

Is the team stupid? I don't know, but that were many boneheaded plays made out there tonight. Randle sticking the ball out on first and goal; Dunbar making a ridiculous decision to return that kick; Street stepping out of bounds. Just not smart football.

Its not going to be a pleasant season this year.

Losing your starting QB for an extended period of time virtually guarantees that.

This season will tell us alot about what we really have in players and coachign staff.

If the goal is just to get into the playoffs, I wouldn't say it's over. We could still do that.

If the goal is to go further, I think it ended even before September 20. We didn't look all that good against the Giants in week 1 either.

I actually agree with you for a change. Unless Brady falls in the shower and can't play I don't even think its competitive.

I agree....but it's how you say it. I stand by my statement. I saw fans in the game thread calling the team stupid tonight. I stopped posting in there. I can't stand fan behavior like that. It's not necessary to say it's sunny when it's raining, but if a child got a bad report card, I wouldn't call her stupid...I would say "study harder!"

I use that analogy because I love my team.
