Randy Gregory fans take note from Noah Spence

Gregory is what bad teams are built on. I am not counting on him for anything but distractions.

Pretty good teams were built on players like Lawrence Taylor, Michael Irvin, Don Meredith, Nate Newton. It’s not the best watynto go, but it doesn’t necessarily drag a whole team down. Besides, I don’t think Gregory is reall considered a key building block at this point, and he won’t be unless he starts to produce

Irrelevant. Different time, different players. Offensive lineman were smaller back in his time. Haley rarely saw a 320+ lb tackle. Now, they are the norm.

Different time, yes, but the average weight of a lineman in the 90s was about 300 pounds. Around 10 pounds lighter than today.

Garrett said Gregory, who did not participate in the team’s conditioning tests on Wednesday, weighs 242. He weighed 235 coming out of Nebraska in 2015.

“We’re proud of how Randy has persisted and his desire and backed it up with what we know to be trying times and effort for him. We’re proud that he’s at camp,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “It wasn’t even a given early that he’d be out here right off the bat participating in the drills.”

I'm trying really hard to not put too much stock in him but I will say I am excited for him to be back. Let's hope he is super focused. Seems like he is on the right track.

Shoot! I gained 50lbs the year after I got married! Home cooking....and I didn't have to get up to get my beer anymore! Lol
As long as the wife didn’t gain 50 lbs the year you got married....
Sorry if this sounds sexist anyone...now if she was pregnant then I take it back....

Oh never mind..,go ahead mods delete my ramblings...

Randy doesn't need to gain much more weight... He's already at 250, I would say 260 should be his max.

Well Force = Mass x Acceleration.

Maybe being lighter will enable him to have higher acceleration thus having the same amount of force had he been a bigger mass.

Based on Gregory's weight in college and in the pros, it doesn't seem likely that his playing weight will ever be much more than in the 250s. He appears to be a naturally lean guy who will probably never play at a weight 25-30 lbs over his college weight. His weight is certainly not ideal for an NFL DE, but can work with a quick, athletic player who knows how to use leverage and his length. Despite the failed drug tests, Gregory is supposedly an intelligent guy who plays stronger than his weight. If he uses all of his assets (speed, quickness, length, leverage, and intelligence to be a step ahead/dissect plays) he can be a very good player. Haley did those things and was a HOF player. Obviously Randy has A LOT to prove in order to be the next Haley, but he does have many of the tools to get the job done IMO.

Notice the so-called standard weigh for DE at 260lb+.......Randy came in at 242. While he doesn't have to put on as much Spence it's still next to impossible to gain 18-20lb during the season. My point is he'll need a full offseason of working with a trainer/nutritionist to his required weight the right way.

The Buccaneers wanted defensive end Noah Spenceto gain weight this offseason. Mission accomplished.

Spence says he has gone from 228 pounds a year ago — tiny by NFL defensive end standards — to 263 now.

“Today was the heaviest I’ve ever been and I felt great. I was 263 today,” Spence told Jenna Laine of ESPN. “I kind of just started playing with it [in the offseason] to see what works. I felt like if I just don’t stop eating or drinking, I won’t lose weight.

I'm fine with Gregory being "underweight".

Just make him a pass rush specialist for 2018.

Any player gaining so much weight you need to question if it was naturally done.
