Randy Gregory Update

I fully expect randy to be at camp opening day.
I do too provided he has time to meet the conditions set by Goodell. I expect him to be conditionally reinstated and he'll have to complete certain tasks in order to become eligible for each step. For example, send in proof you have treatment set up in Dallas and you'll be able to participate in preseason games. Remain clean throughout training camp and preseason and you'll be eligible to play in Week 1.

if he's ready for reinstate, he's probably ready for camp

IMO, he and Tapper make the 53 man

Yes I did because the suspension and any decision about the suspension is based deeply on the medical facts of this case.

The league is obliged to keep this process confidential. They cannot comment on aspects of this.

We should have far less information - the league office tends to leek way too much.

And stop thinking you "deserve" something. That's just some entitled BS right there.

Aren't you special.

We should not expect anything out of Gregory. I hope he plays again and plays well. But we shouldn't expect it. There's not exactly a long history of players with big gaps in their careers who come in and become instant studs.

If Gregory racked up 10 sacks, would you let DLaw walk, considering? What about if Tank has another awesome year??

If it's me, there's no way in hell I let two good pass rushers go, especially considering we should probably cut ties with David (trouble is my middle name) Irving...

The process around drug suspensions is supposed to be confidential. That HIPPA. The public should actually get far less information than we do

Don't think HIPPA comes into play since this isn't about his health (technically) but about will he be allowed into this private club as a performer. His test results and personal health data are not being revealed by the NFL, Cowboys, or himself. We can assume about such health info but I haven't read or heard anything. He can release his own data or allow The League to at his discretion.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary!

Appreciate the post and question, but no way in hell for me. We don't let DLaw walk. He isn't going to regress to sub-10 sack totals, unless of injury (which changes my whole argument, but you didnt pose it as such)

To have that kind of havoc at both ends of the DL would be somewhat akin to our OL

Sign them both, figure out the rest.

It would take at least 3 years of consistently good play for me trust Randy Gregory for any kind of commitment. A ten sack season would not be enough proof that he’s turned a corner. RG has a loooong way to go to be considered someone we can trust as an every day player.

So...you’d dump Irving, who’s actually produced on the field when available and who will have missed 8 games due
to suspension, for Gregory, who, entering his 4th NFL season, has 1 sack in 14 games played and has so-far missed most of his career due to suspension?
:huh::muttley::facepalm:

I liked his question too as it was very original.

I agree that if Gregory does show out, and Lawrence is top 8 in pressures this season that I resign Lawrence still. Gregory isnt due for a new contract until he has three more seasons accrued so he's here for a good while longer.

He's passed so many drug tests that I'Il bet he's able to stay clean moving forward.

If he actually comes in a produces anywhere near what we had hoped, then I'd say high fives are in order - all around!

Sure hope we can High five, and he turns out to be a good player.

A ten sack season from RG, Hayes, and I am doing the happy dance all over my house and counting down till his extension. Two in a row, and I might change my marriage proposal in my header. Two years of consistency we begin the talks of re-signing him; for me at least, it's relevant and worthy debate, then.

We absolutely lock him up if he is consistent for three years, that's a no-brainer. When his contract is a year from up -- we need to -- if he's put out two high-effort, productive seasons, start to look at an extension. His past can be forgotten if he performs, a la Von Miller. We can probably land him for 2-3M aav less than a similar counterpart with same numbers. Because he smoked weed and some GMs will be scared he may revert.

I am not at all hesitant to say that RG has Von Miller potential in spades

And folks, it is perfectly fine to get giddy about RGregory. Just as it is to be reluctant to buy-in. Both sides have their merits.

For me, git giddy. Doesn't make you a homer. He is a tier-1 prospect who hasn't had a chance at being a football player with any consistency. Again, his fault or otherwise.

One thing people need to remember is that giving long term contracts to players that might be suspended is actually less risky than to players that you don't anticipate to get suspended.

Step 1: We sign Gregory to a long-term extension
Step 2: He relapses and gets suspended
Step 3: The guaranteed portion of his contract is vioded due to suspension(Like Zeke, Doug Martin, etc)
Step 4: We cut Gregory with no dead cap space
