Randy Gregory update?

Can I make a dumb post about how he looks like Samuel L. Jackson?

Not allowed and it’s frankenberry

As of July 26th he has yet to apply for reinstatement. He changed agents so the process has been delayed. If I’m not mistaken after he applies the NFL office has 60 days to respond.

I’ve heard on the website podcasts that if he does get reinstated it wont be before the season starts. The FO has been optimistic this whole time that he will be back. That’s all I’ve found so far.

Personally, I’m pulling for him to be reinstated. I’ve never understood why taking a guy away from his support system is in any way benificial to the player. If you want to suspend him for games and game checks that’s fine but don’t ban him from facilities, teammates, and support. My understanding is Randy suffers from more than a marijuana addiction. There are deep issues that he needs help to overcome.

Exactly. Gregory's drug abuse is a result of his struggles with mental health. It's not the other way around.

To continue to punish him for having legitimate psychological issues achieves nothing. Gregory is tested multiple times per month; and it should surprise nobody that he had zero issues when he was with his teammates between last July and January.

I am so naïve.
Every time I think we've heard the last of Gregory the idiot, here again is his spectre over us.
Fans wringing their hands.
This is not snark, ruffian, just frustration.

Here we go again.
Mental issues.
The Dallas Cowboys as a "support system" for man children who can't stay away from illegal substances.

Yes, for an hour a day at camp, bring in Josh Brent, Gregory et. al for a prayer circle and tell them how much we and their support system love them.
Then, one day, let's quit playing football and be a support system for all the coddled and addicted athletes we can take on.
Ridiculous?
No more ridiculous than making the Cowboys a "support system!" WE PLAY FOOTBALL! WE DONT HANDLE PSYCHIATRIC CASES!!!
Let the courts, the NFL, the psychiatrists and the psychologists do their job. I dont want them devising our plays and we should not be in the business of treating mental disorders and holding hands with idiots who cant follow the rules like 90% of the NFL players.

But if you persist, I trust your heart is in the right place.
Walk up to Witten and say "will you be a big brother to Gregory because he has not yet matured? I am sure you won't mind sparing an hour a day as his support system."

Yes, bloke, problem solved!

Not allowing a player to attend training camp seems very odd to me even if they're suspended from playing games.
- If there is ANY chance that they could be reinstated then they should be in training camp.

I think with Gregory, it's because it's an indefinite suspension, so the assumption is that you're gone unless something changes.

Don't they let them stay attend camp when the suspended game schedule has been set? I'm sure sometimes that has been the case, but it also seems like not always.

In general, I agree that suspensions, since they are denominated in games, should leave the offseason out of it. Having the effective suspension vary so much depending on time of year seems dumb. A 1 game suspension in the middle of the season, vs. a 1 game suspension that keeps you out of training camp are not equal punishments.

If I was a stoner, I think a cool thing to say to chicks in a bar is "I am a suspended Cowboy for being a stoner".

"Oh really, which one are you"?

You act like I’m implying that the players and coaches all sit around and have group sessions to talk about their feelings. That’s not what I meant by support system. Let me be more clear.

When a person with known mental health issues is isolated away from people that support them, a lot of times they turn to self medication to cope.

I’ll give you that in some cases, players just like to smoke weed and are too immature to quit. Rules are rules, I get it, but I also believe each case should be looked at individually and not just a broad ruling.

Like I said, take game checks away from these players, fine them, suspend them from games. Whatever, but when they are barred from facilities, and withheld contact with friends/teammates and people that want to see them succeed how is that beneficial to players that need support?
