Well this is the 1 position everyone is focused on so let's get the long debate started now. Rank your top 10 DE's in order. This is just anyone you think could play DE in our scheme, don't worry about RDE/LDE. A pure speed pass rusher would be nice, but it's not like we can be too picky about guys that can get to the QB.

1. Garrett
2. Allen
3. Barnett
4. Thomas
5. Taco
6. Willis
7. Kpassagnon
8. McKinley
9. Walker
10. Harris
*Tim Williams omitted because we can't possibly afford to take that chance again.

Lawson and Basham are the 2 that just miss.

Curious to see everyone else's...

I mostly agree but I think Tak is probably above Taco based on upside and what I expect to be a big combine. Not sure the Villanova kid doesn't move up also as not sure how consistent Taco can win the edge and give 100% effort.
I like Walker a lot but more because I think he could move inside or out and be disruptive although not a consistent edge rusher.

McKinley above Willis and Kpassagnon. I'm 50-50 on Taco vs Takk right now. I want to see how fast/athletic Taco is at the combine.

By the same logic, shouldn't we omit Garrett and Allen cause we can't afford to move up from 28 to the top 3.

Sure, if that's how you'd like to do it. Just looking for as many opinions as possible. The deeper you want to rank them the better.

Two under the radar guys I like:
Dawaune Smoot and Daeshon Hall. Both have good burst and and play the run equally well.

I can see your logic in the arrangement, Tak has fallen down in my eval after watching multiple games where he was average, Taco I need to see more to board the bandwagon. Lawson would be my pick at 28 and if he is not available I would be looking seriously at the DB's to see which has best player available. Three teams behind us are looking for edge talent which means likely four ahead of us, Cleveland(2 picks in rd1 before us), Ravens, Colts, and Bengals will determine our menu at 28. After us Pats, Falcons, and Steelers are all looking for edge talent so the second round will be slim.
5th best edge rusher is possible if this scenario plays forward, I still like Lawson. Fingers crossed some of the QB's really perform well at the combine and Reese's Senior Bowl.

You know we don't HAVE to draft a DE right? I wouldn't touch Lawson at 28. A 6'1 1/2" 255 lb injury prone DE? No thanks. That would be a classic example of reaching for need that would likely blow up in our faces. Pick the best player, not the best DE available. CB, DE, DT, S, LB, RT, WR...it wouldn't be hard to argue for upgrades at all of those positions so BPA really shouldn't be that hard to do.

Get good players regardless of position and things will work out.

We differ in evaluation than, Lawson would be the BPA in my opinion, I feel the DE tier flattens after him. I would never ignore BPA but DE/CB are crying for skill and a first rd choice is shaded with that need along with being the most logical method of replenishing the pool.
To be clear these are my opinions and I am not a professional scout, in fact last year I was not in the EE boat till a month before the draft in 2016 and wondered why we passed on so many good Dlineman. I have trust in the FO with their methods and hope this will not be the year that we regress to the mean as far as draft hits. I also understand that the FO did not plan on drafting Prescott, and Zack Martin.

What are people thoughts about TJ Watts? I know that he is not his older brother but he looked good in the highlights that I saw but then again everyone looks good in highlights.

I haven't been as confident in a player being a instant impact player and eventual all pro in a long time. Just get this guy somehow.

5. Tanoh Kpassagnon
6. Tarell Basham
7. Dawaune Smoot

I consider J Allen, S Thomas, and D Walker as DTs.
I consider C Lawson, T McKinley, R Anderson, and C Harris OLBs in a 34. Tim Williams is sandboxed.

You think Watt can play with his hand down in a 4-3 but not the others?? Watt is a SLB in the 4-3 in my opinion, could be a good 1 too.

The others aren't 6-4 with frame to add weight and I don't really see coverage skills that would make Watt a good fit for 4-3 OLB.

I also suspect teams will inevitably assess him within the context of JJ. I'm probably guilty of giving him a boost based on his genes.
