Rank the following players in their position league-wide

I don't see it. Perhaps as individual pass catchers, but not as complete tight ends.

That's where the league is going though, the way of the TE that can split out wide and outmatch the DB's. Don't get me wrong, Witten is probably my favorite all-time Cowboy, but I think that the way the league is going is slowly starting to pass TE's like him by.

As far as a receiving tight end, Witten isn't even close to the likes of Vernon Davis, Rob Gronkowski, and Jimmy Graham. Those guys are much more athletic and are "Hybrids" of a WR. They're prototypes of the new aged TE - Physical mismatches who are nightmares to defenses as they're too quick for LBs and too big for DBs.

Not saying that those guys are necessarily better then Witten, because even though they're all "tight ends", they have completely different roles.

Yet he had a 100 catches the year before, and like 8 Td's last year.

I love the new stud freak TE's, and I'm hoping Gavin is one of them. But Witt just produces. Quietly, because he doesn't dunk over the goalpost.

Dez Bryant, WR - top 3
Terrance Williams, WR - top 50
DeMarco Murray, HB - top 15
Tyron Smith, LT - top 3
Travis Frederick, C - top 10
Sean Lee, ILB - top 5
Brandon Carr, CB - top 25
Morris Claiborne, CB - top 50
Henry Melton, DT - top 20
Dan Bailey, K - top 5
Romo - top 8

yeah right...lol jimmy graham from the saints kills witten

That's insane, Graham is no where near Witten's level. He is one-dimensional and that is supported by the fact that he wants to be paid like a receiver. Through Witten's first four years he had a revolving door of mediocre to serviceable Quarterbacks and still produced. Graham has had Brees his entire career and I think if you put a tight-end even a little under Graham's level with Brees, he's going to be successful. Graham doesn't have the preparation skills or work ethic of Witten either. After Winslow Sr, Tony Gonzalez and John Mackey, Witten comes close. Graham will be lucky to end up in that group by careers end. There aren't many that will say that Graham is a better tight-end that Jason Witten.

All the guys - Gates, Gronk, etc have come and gone while Witteb continues to just do work. The only guy who was better was Tony G and he couldn't hold a candle to Witten when it comes to blocking.

Exactly! And what is a shame is that whoever the "Exciting" player was at the time always took the spotlight from Witten. Gates was that player for most of Witten's career.

What about w

Two more that are better Trent wiliams and Russell okung..

No they're not. Williams at each point in his career has been a step behind Tyron and was notably worse last year.

Okung and the rest of the Seahawks OL is overrated.

The only guys that have an argument over Smith at this point are Thomas and Peters.

And honestly, I'd take the 23 year old over the 32 year at this point.

It's a really interesting point that I don't entirely disagree with, every year there is some new hot TE that's suddenly better than Witten... but Gronk was/is a better TE than Witten. He just has injury issues. He's an all around TE and superior receiver.

Based on who I'd want on my team today -
Tony Romo, QB - #6 (Brees, P.Manning, Rodgers, Brady, Luck)
Dez Bryant, WR - #3 (C.Johnson, Green)
Terrance Williams, WR - #30-#40
DeMarco Murray, HB - #10 (Charles, Peterson, McCoy, Forte, Lynch, Foster, Stacy, Morris, Bush) **I assumed he was top 5, but after looking at the list I couldn't argue higher than #7, and would slot him at #10**
Tyron Smith, LT - #2 (Clady)
Travis Frederick, C - #7-#10
Sean Lee, ILB - disregarding health #3 (Kuechly, Willis), considering health concerns #8-#12
Brandon Carr, CB - #30-35
Morris Claiborne, CB - #40-50
Henry Melton, DT - #6-#10
Dan Bailey, K - #1 **I trust this guy immensely, statistically merely a marginal difference between him, Prater, Hauschka and the other elite kickers**

If smith is better than Williams than why did smith play right tackle in the pro bowl while Williams played left tackle? Also smith got his *** worked...Williams gave up 3.6 pressures per game vs 6.0 for smith..Williams is the better player point blank.
