Your number 10 needs to be edited to "The way he fired Landry." Landry was getting fired no matter what. It was a stipulation they put in as a requirement for buying the Cowboys. Jones had to agree to it or he couldn't purchase the team. The way he did it was horrible though.

1- Butting heads with good coaches and coming down to the field and meddling into active team affairs.

1. Not hiring someone to replace himself as GM years ago, delegating those responsibilities then overseeing their results (like most owners).

Everything else is a result of that mistake.

Lol...how do you do a top 10 list and not include Carson Wentz?

Franchise altering mistake. Much more impactful than Randy Moss. Who would have come to a declining team.

I just like this, but Could you clarify how could the Cowboys get Carson Wentz? Do you mean he should have traded up in that year? What would the cost be?

Many thanks

zeke WAS a great pick at the time. That's a little unfair to say Carson Wentz. That said, Zeke seems to lack the desire needed to be an exceptional RB for the longterm. From that standpoint, I am disappointed with him. Carson Wentz isn't exactly Mahomes btw. He isn't all that. Better than Dak? YES...

My most stark reminder to myself is this, The Jones Clan aint going anywhere for the next 35 years. They got them lined up in the Jones pipeline as far as team ownership goes. IF we win a SB,which is highly doubtful, under ANY person named Jones, it will be by pure default. The day we ran off Jimmy Johnson wa sthe day we became a cursed team. Been circling the drain mostly ever since. Same with the Raiders...ever since they traded Gruden...they haven't done all that much. HOW YOU DO THINGS IN THIS LEAGUE,AND LIFE DOES MATTER. Both clubs parallel one another. The Jimmy J. thing was and still is unforgivable. A dark cloud looms as a result, and that cloud has a name. ITS CALLED THE JONES'

We just gave up a #1 for a WR. If you have a chance to get a franchise QB you go and get him. We picked #4. We wouldn't have had to give up as much as Philly did.

Yes. When you're sitting there with the 4th overall pick with a starting QB on his last legs and the teams at 1 and 2 want to trade out because they have their QBs you make the deal to get the guy #1 on your board. The guy you coached at the Senior Bowl. The player who evidently wowed them in the interviews as Stephen Jones has mentioned being the most impressive ever.

What you don't do is assume against all rational thought that your QB can play another 5 years, watch your division rival jump ahead of you to take that player while you settle for a RB at 4.

That is easily one of the top 5 biggest mistakes of the Jerry era. The next Aaron Rodgers was gift wrapped for us and we were like "nah, we're good".

Stop pretending the Cowboys didn't have the chance at Wentz. They had the best chance and our glorious front office screwed things up yet again.

You nailed it. I don’t think it had to do with Carson Wentz, but Romo and his contract.

In my opinion that IS the mistake, giving Romo that contract and expecting him to play in his 40’s.

Thanks

My top 4....

1) Getting rid of Jimmy and becoming an active GM.

2) Making your equally unqualified son your top personnel assistant.

3) Reverting back to weak head coaches after Parcells.

4) Carsus of Bismarck.

Nothing else compares to those 4. They were all franchise crippling.

Based on what? From what I've seen looks like he's a vast improvement...no mantel, better drafting, etc...sounds like Stephen might be what we need
Poor drafting is a huge problem. No depth anywhere and an offense full of holes.
