1-Firing Jimmy Johnson
2-Not hiring a propper GM
3-Hiring Puppet coaches to replace Johnson
4-Joey Galloway Trade
5-Roy Williams Trade
6-Not drafting Randy Moss
7-Thinking your star QB has 5 more years when evidence points that he did not
8-Signing T.O. and driving out Parcells in the process
9-Doubling down on not firing Jason Garrett because he is a coach in training. How many players has this coach wasted?
10-The special Teams draft....This team has never been that close to waste draft picks like that.
11-Ruining the legacy of this great team which used to stand for something other than mediocrity

What we need is our first DIVISIONAL playoff game win in 22 years. :)

Yes we do...and it's not coming this year...

Won't be coming until we overhaul the coaching staff....we need to hard tough guys with good fundamentals..

Team has talent but weak at fundamentals, too many mistakes and soft

According to HOF Troy Aikman, it won't be coming until Jerry hires a real football GM and fires everyone with the last name Jones.

Which will not happen until he dies which with modern medicine will be in the next 15 to 20 years

1. Not hiring someone to replace himself as GM years ago, delegating those responsibilities then overseeing their results (like most owners).

Everything else is a result of that mistake.

This is the answer. Not replacing himself with a real GM, every other mistake pales in comparison. All those other mistakes are just symptoms, but Jerry is the disease.

Make your list. What are the honorable mentions?

10.) Firing Landry like a cold hearted snake
9.) The special teams draft
8.) Signing TO
7.) Trading a 1st and a 3rd for Roy Williams
6.) Signing Deion
5.) Trading two # 1 picks for Galloway
4.) Not drafting Randy Moss
3.) Not Firing JG after three straight 8-8 seasons
2.) Hiring Barry Switzer
1.) Running off Jimmy

10. It’s was time to replace Landry, the way it was done was wrong but style points certainly have no bearing on the team
9. The ST draft was bigger than many think. It hurt for years. And more important it was a sign of a GM who had no clue what the draft was. And showed no real plan
8. TO wasn’t a problem for me. Good player
7. Roy Williams was a big one though most fans supported it at the time. I remember a few guys against it and I’d love to pull up all those posts again lol
6.signing dion wasn’t a mistake to me. Adding good players is rarely bad
5.i get the Galloway trade and had Troy stayed healthy history could be different
4. I get the pass on moss myself
3. I get giving JG every chance. That has been done and the results are it’s time
2. Switzer is an example of a guys ego being bigger than his brain
1. I’ve always felt Jimmy/jerry was not just Jerry but a bit of both sides

In no particular order:

Getting rid of Jimmy

Going with Dak

Trading for Roy Williams

Passing on Moss

Giving up our number 1 pick for a WR this year, when it's probably going to end up a top 5 pick.

Almost exclusively hiring coaches he can 'guide'

Your number 10 needs to be edited to "The way he fired Landry." Landry was getting fired no matter what. It was a stipulation they put in as a requirement for buying the Cowboys. Jones had to agree to it or he couldn't purchase the team. The way he did it was horrible though.

How was he supposed to fire Landry?

Landry avoided his phone calls and was intentionally out of town when the new team owner was known to be coming to Valley Ranch.

If you get fired, neither the company owner or even your manager is going to fly to another town to tell you. They'll tell you when it's convenient for them.

Rob Ryan got fired over the phone while he was on vacation in the Caribbean. That I might call cold-blooded.

Was Jerry supposed to plan a parade to do it?

Jerry purchased the team on Feburary 25. That means they were behind other teams on making draft plans and everything.

What would actually have been rude to Landry would have been to officially hire Jimmy and have him working at Valley Ranch before Landry had been officially fired.

Landry was media savvy. Jerry was not. Landry
should have been there to meet the new owner.

Landry had already given previous owner Bum Bright the "I Tom Landry and you're not" treatment. That's why Bum Bright detested Landry and stipulated in the contract that Jerry had to fire Landry.

When Bright was the owner, Landry knew he didn't have the Cajones to fire him. Bright feared that he could not "do business" (oil and gas, banking) in Dallas if he was the man that fired Landry.

There was no method that would have satisfied Landry fans. Jerry could have held a secret meeting of all Landry fans and taken a vote on the most respectful method to fire Landry. He could then have locked all the fans in Texas Stadium until he completed the task in the method that won the fan vote. Once it was done, those fans would still have crucified Jerry for the way he handled the firing.

zeke WAS a great pick at the time. That's a little unfair to say Carson Wentz. That said, Zeke seems to lack the desire needed to be an exceptional RB for the longterm. From that standpoint, I am disappointed with him. Carson Wentz isn't exactly Mahomes btw. He isn't all that. Better than Dak? YES...

Patrick Mahomes wouldn't be Patrick Mahomes with the Cowboy coaches...

TO should not be on the list, despite how things ended with him, he was a he'll of a player for us...

I'd personally say his biggest mistake is refusing to fire himself as a gm after 20 plus years of mediocrity
I agree and the same goes with Deion.

Your 6 and 8 are so wrong it’s criminal. Replace them with drafting Escobar instead of any of the other TE’s that draft and passing on Fletcher Cox and Luke Kuechly to move up for Claiborne.
