The QB market is so misunderstood. QBs aren’t paid according to accomplishments. They are paid according two things: Market value (what every other team is paying to have a starting QB) and potential value of getting a team to the playoffs. Way too many fans judge QB contracts on what and why people get paid in the real world. And it’s apples and oranges.

Also - Cowboys fans worry way too much about the cap because we’ve been conditioned by Stephen Jones to believe it has way more handcuffing power than it does. In fact, some of these big contracts of five or more years allow teams to have some creative flexibility with the cap.

My worry level about extending Dak: 0%.

Start picking the players you wanna say good bye to now....once The New Contract is signed.
Why?????
This will be nothing new for Stephen.....hell, with the way he structured his QBs contract ( Aikman and Romo ) Dak will play at 2/3 on small cap number. Then he will restructure and kick some down the road.

The other misunderstood part of NFL QB contracts is this: Teams sign these big deals with a QB because finding even a decent QB in today’s game is very hard. THAT is the biggest driver of the QB market.

It‘s simple economic supply and demand. The demand is extremely high but the supply is extremely low. So you have to to pay a lot more for a QB because of that supply vs demand. It’s basic economics.

It’s no wonder there is so much mediocre play in the NFL, and many of these teams took a step backwards after signing these QB contracts. There’s not enough money to keep the pieces around them. Once Purdy needs to get paid, the 49ers won’t be able to keep all of their pieces. If I was a QB, I’d sign with a good team at a ‘discount’ so they can dominate. So much money to be made by winning SBs and endorsement deals.

This.

Just look at the 4 QBs already making more than $50nm a year... it has not resulted in a mass exodus of talent.

I would speculate $56mm -$58mm per year.

What's crazy it's the only position that can fire a coach/GM after a few years or get them lifetime contracts (lol)

Wasn’t Dak like the highest paid a few years ago? Now he makes 2/3 the salary of the highest paid. The QB bubble is gonna burst at this rate.

This is exactly why a QB like Daniel Jones got 40M a year. If you're dying of thirst, and the only source of water is in the toilet, just don't let the lid hit you on the back of the head.
