RB isn't about age it is carries. And Zeke got his carries in.
He has had 2065 rushes but also been the primary pocket protector and caught 356 passes.

Most RB whither at about 2000 touches.
For comparison's sake CMC has just less than 1300 rushes. Those injuries actually saved his legs.

Derrick Henry has over 2000 rushes and was down to 4.2 YPC last year. Thats why would welcome him in a rotation for low money but not as a bellcow we had to really pay.
With Pollard for the most part sitting for his first 2 years, while we ran Zeke into the ground. Then a smart guy GM Jeruh, gives Zeke a massive extension, knowing or should have known, that the wear on the tires was low.

Tony Pollard wasn't ready for the job and Zeke and his agent outplayed Stephen who was forced into an early extension with insane terms.
No way should Stephen have signed that deal with that much power to Zeke.

But he was All-Pro twice in 4 years and coming off a Pro Bowl 2nd team All-Pro season.

The terms were awful but Jerry isn't the cap guy and doesn't build contracts. That's on Stephen.
Dallas never should have tagged Tony Pollard last year. He was an undersized back coming off major injury.
That's even harder to explain.
Zeke at his peak was Emmitt level good. ((But you never guarantee a RB money 3-4 years out. Thats insanity.))
He just had nowhere near Emmitt's insane staying power.

Dallas had indicated before Zeke they would never use elite resources at RB again.
They had great results with Murray and Barber and others taken later in drafts and they let Murray and Barber walk when they got too expensive.
I still am shocked to this day that they took Zeke 4th overall instead of the generational FSU CB.
But once they did he was always going to get a 2nd contract unless he was a flat bust.
And instead he had a top 5 run of all-time at the position over a 4-year period to start a career.
So it just comes down the very bad terms.
Dallas should have called Zeke's bluff and let him twist.
Tested his staying power.

I know. Just like Shultz was not ready to replace Witten. Or Ferguson was not ready to replace Schulz. That is why it was a priority to draft Schoonmaker right? And miraculously he will not be ready until Ferguson is gone.

I love how we pay our own, big money, after an injury, but look for deals with free agents coming off an injury, or wasting high draft picks on injured players.

The strategy or lack their off is mind boggling.

When I'm reality, it is just whatever GM Jeruh feels like for the day.

There is zero way you or anyone with a brain believes Jerry is making these decisions.
He has no idea who the heck Schoonmaker even is to this day.

Schultz was a solid TE but he struggled with an injury that final season and then dropped two passes in the playoffs loss and that was kinda that.
He can catch and block but he was terrible year 1 where Jaylon Smith once bull rushed into unconsciousness.
You do have to develop guys that are drafted in round 4/5.

Schoon is hard to explain as draft boards hated him and he as oft-injured in college.

Dallas front office has bombed plenty of stuff but Jerry isn't the true decision-maker in most of those moves. He basically gets to be the tie-breaker in big decisions and pretend he sits atop it all.
But he is clueless about draft decisions and doesn't get to set any part of the board.

Dallas habit of tagging players is just dumb.
You either have to pay them a higher rate going forward or they bust and you paid bad money on the tag.
There is no other possible result.
The results have been heinously bad.

If GM Jeruh has no idea, then he should not longer be GM Jeruh.

Tagging a player, happens for really only 1 reason. You have not prepared for their replacement. If your tagging a player, you better be drafting their replacement. If you want to keep the player long term, why did you take them to begin with.

Who's the cheapest and most washed up option out there, just asking for a friend.

Dallas Cowboys COO and Director of Player Personnel Stephen Jones stands on the sidelines...
Not only cheapest but vet minimum

Zeke is only 28? Man he fell hard and fast.
Zeke is such a great example of how to win and how to lose in the NFL today. Clearly he had the talent. Absolute top tier NFL athlete. Give him a giant pile of money and boom it is over just like that. IMHO Parsons is heading down this path. Identifying the players who will pack it in after getting paid is pretty much the main responsibility of a GM IMHO. Nothing sinks a football team faster than having turds as your highest paid players. Zeke was a turd. Parsons exhibits turd like qualities.

To be honest, not much separation from #1 to #12, just depends on the favorite flavor. Either way, it's a safe bet that one on this list will be a 2024 Cowboy starter (full or part-time).

Ranking 2024's top 12 free-agent running backsRan

Given what they gave Miles Sanders last year, the Carolina Panthers probably won’t be sifting through the open market for a big-name running back this spring.

But just in case you were curious, here are the top 12 free-agent rushers for the offseason:

1. Saquon Barkley (Age: 27)

Which running back did the best behind the worst Oline? To me it looks like probably Henry.
