Ranking the Dallas Cowboys Five Biggest Team Needs
http://thelandryhat.com/2017/02/18/ranking-dallas-cowboys-five-biggest-team-needs/

...#1 – Defensive End

It’s no secret the Cowboys need a dominate pass rusher. Whether it be via free agency, the draft or a trade, Dallas must absolutely, positively find themselves a “War Daddy” who can put pressure and bring down opposing quarterbacks from the right defensive end position.

#2 – Cornerback
Chances are the Cowboys will not bring back both Carr and Claiborne. That leaves veteran Orlando Scandrick and 2016 sixth round rookie Anthony Brown as their outside starters. I expect Dallas to try and keep Scandrick in the slot. Re-signing either Carr or Claiborne for at least one more season allows you to do that. Then I see the Cowboys making this position a major focus in the upcoming draft.

#3 – Wide Receiver
With both Terrance Williams and Brice Butler currently free agents, the Cowboys need to find a solid number two to pair opposite of All-Pro Dez Bryant. A speedy free agent like DeSean Jackson would be perfect. But Dallas is unlikely to make a big splash in free agency. Instead, look for the Cowboys to bring back the cheaper Butler and try to find a late round gem at the position via the draft...

#1 General Manager - need a football guy making football decisions rather than a business man making business decisions.

#2 Head Coach - a coach with a set of tentacles would do the team good. The clapper must go.

#3 Edge Rusher - The defense was good enough to get us to the playoffs but you need a pocket disrupter to get through the playoffs.

Not only is this guy highly qualified in that department, we could also say goodbye to clock management issues.

Winning formula:

Fix the pass rush
Get a couple new CB's
Get a couple new S's
Get a new ROT
Win a few Super Bowls

Without making it a Garrett bash thread, lets keep it within realms of possibilities .

Yes, i think majority can agree pass rush is number 1. We need to get to the qb and that is evident. I appreciate what Rod did last year , yes the defense did play above its level, but it died where many of us knew it would die and it died with a nice resounding THUD. Lets learn our lesson, get to the draft and us FA wisely but NOT cheap.

Here is where i break at number 2 with most answers. We need to dump some players quickly and realize who needs to go, who is middling and who are our stars. Lets not keep those who dont need to be kept.

3, Back to the defense.

4 Fill in the spots, get some undrafted players again and use the PS and undrafted wisely.

5 dont get excited, doesnt mean the cowboys are going to say "lets freaking do it, lets make this season the season we return to being a powerhouse" it might be the same show and dance and we will know immediately come the draft.

1. Continuity. I would like to see them retain the services of as many Cowboy free agents as possible.

2. Contract extension for Zack Martin.

3. Another productive draft.

4. Limiting the number of injuries.

5. Incremental improvements by each young player on the team.

I agree withe everything except number 5. I think we're fine at backup QB with a competition between Moore and Sanchez.

#1 General Manager - need a football guy making football decisions rather than a business man making business decisions.

#2 Head Coach - a coach with a set of testicles would do the team good. The clapper must go.

#3 Edge Rusher - The defense was good enough to get us to the playoffs but you need a pocket disrupter to get through the playoffs.

Did you not see our last game in Philly? We can't win with that Sanchez guy, can't do it. Moore may have a future with the Cowboys but he will need to compete with another young prospect. Dak is not Superman and so he won't always be healthy. He needs a reliable back up.

Rock solid. If we do those things, we are in pretty good shape.

"Needs" are very difficult to determine and rank because it is all relative in terms of how you view the team and where you are trying to go. I want SBs and nothing else, "also ran" trophies were never my thing.

Unlike many of you I dont view this as some dominant team that is missing a couple of pieces to get over the top. This is a deeply flawed team with a good offense and a really really bad defense and very little attention paid to STs. I would not be shocked if this team goes 9-7 next year given its obvious deficiencies and tougher schedule. I would be mad, but not shocked.

The obvious limitations at GM and HC are not going to change so I won't address those

Short of those we need (in no particular order)

Starter at DE
Starter 1T DT
Starting FS with experience
Real PR/KR
Starting MLB
Back up QB who can win us a couple of games
#2 WR who is reliable and intelligent and runs consistent routes and catches what us thrown to him

These are absolute needs if we want to truly compete for a SB

Also need
CBs

I know that the team will not address most of these issues adequately
