I don’t think it’s because the players don’t care. It’s more of a combination of not being able to practice much in pads anymore and the art of tackling being much more difficult with all the rules changes over the years. The way most of us who played football as a kid were taught to tackle would get you flagged for a personal foul today.

In the end, I think the way football is played today is so very different than it was 20 years ago, the “fundamentals” are not as clear as they used to be. Tackling is not worked on enough today. Even though the rules have changed in how you can tackle, the teams who tackle well usually win games.

I definitely agree that the restriction on padded practices and other limits have resulted in the first few games of every season looking pretty sad.
BUT this far into the season? With all these games under their belts?
Also agree with you about all the rule changes. Way too many way too fast.

It happens...sometimes you have to step back, regroup and regound yourself. Very common in many industries.

The fundamentals of football still matter. Blocking and tackling - the teams that do it better than the other teams almost always win. That’s the simplest formula to winning.

We ACTUALLY agree on that, hence the reason why players seem to not care or it makes you feel that way. Have you ever seen a team lose a game, and there's guys on the sidelines smiling and laughing, and all of us POOR fans are left with is anger??
