Rashawn Gary looks like this year's Kenneth Murray

Keep in mind that Gary spent the last 2/3rds of last season completely invisible leaving the team questioning his effort and whether he was just done. Which is why they were more than happy to move him for a 4th.

I never got the support for that move. He was B level on his best day and we let a better player walk in Clowney for him.

But I'm not a defensive expert like secondary coach Christian Parker.

Gary is better than Clowney. Maybe that will help you get it!!!!!!!

Gary is an A level SSOLB. He's getting grief on here simply because most fans can only count sacks to evaluate a player.

Just because he wasn't getting sacks does not mean he was invisible.

Oh, and GB traded him because they overpaid him, plain and simple. They paid him as a WSOLB when he is most obviously a SSOLB. Same thing we did w/ DLaw.

Agree but will see what they do today, they did beat the Phins but a change in culture may be what the doctor ordered. But always good to get that first win under your belt, no matter who the opponent is.

I watched the Giants game over again. Rashawn Gary looks like this year’s Kenneth Murray. Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Except Murray wasn’t making $20 million a year.

This was my exact reaction to watching Gary play against the Giants. And before anyone brings up the fact they play different positions, I am referring to Gary and Murry both appearing to be clueless. Gary got caught out of position multiple times from what I saw and made a few bad reads, kind if like Murray.

The one glimmer of hope I have is that the entire teams seemed to be confused and clueless. Dee Winters had a bad game too and we were told he was really good. Perhaps they just need time to get their act together. I hope that is the case.

Not a good comparison.

Elam and Murray were never good and Sanborn was done.

Gary and Thompson have always been good. Not on the same planet as players.

I was comparing more to Winters, another 5th rounder like Elam (or 6th, whichever it was). Of course Gary has been better than someone like Sanborn. But still, the hope is these guys will be so much better than here than at their former teams.

And Thompson I wouldn't include at all. They at least paid for him and he has been good (though not sure he was very good last week).

You must surely be a fan of another team and not the Dallas Cowboys. There's no comparison between the two. R. Gary is a much better competitor than last year's version of Kenneth Murray. Murray played more like Tarzan's monkey.

PFF graded him at 51.1 overall grade, with a 57.7 pass-rush grade and 47.4 run-defense grade. He wasn't bad but he wasn't good. Just kind of middle of the road. Considering how poorly the defense played overall he just kind of fit in. As with the whole defense in general, we should expect an improvement today. Well, we better!

Which is on par with what he was last year. But yeah still isn’t Murray bad.

I mean he’s not overpaid if he continues to produce like he did a few years ago. He’s not performing at that level….no matter what role we gave D Law he always performed.

Of course I am...I mentioned pressure rates and a consistent decline in the run game as well. Hes always been a single digit sack guy, which is fine if all other areas look good. The last couple years they simply haven't been what you want out of a guy like Gary though....his pressure rate has declined every year since 2022, and his quick pressures have completely fallen off a cliff. What else do you want me to evaluate?

I fully understand that stacks don't always tell the full story, but Gary's primary reponsibility is as a pass rusher. For his career hes been arounda 35-40 snap per game player with about 2/3rds of those being passing down snaps.

Absolutely. Gary is actually a usable player, hes just a guy who peaked a few years ago and has been more middle of the pack than anything the last couple seasons. Murray never did anything in his career to even justify handing him a starting role.

So when he played for the Packers all these years he was not playing for Jerry but Jerry picking him up makes him trash now but when the other team was using him as a starter that that team gets a pass huh Is that what you're trying to tell me is that what you're trying to make us understand where your head's at and mine is this was a starter for the Packers he was absolutely clearly their starter for years But a starter here though he must be trashed because one game says everything..

12:53 - Completely blown off the ball by the FB. Minus grade
12:12 - Run opposite side. Gary plays his responsibilites fine, but goes unblocked. No grade
11:34 - QB sneak - Gary unblocked but no involved in the play. No grade
10:49 - Quick pass so its a tough ask for the pass rush, but Gary made no pressure - No grade
8:19 - Ran to Gary's side, Gary driven back 5 yards off the LOS - Minus grade
7:32 - Pass - No pressure, Gary gets washed down inside on a late stunt - Minus grade
6:45 - TD to Skattebo to Gary's side. This is an interesting one because I think this is more a scheme issue than a player issue for this play. Good gap control by the guys inside, just no penetration, but I think this is by design. The failure here is at the LB level....Offset Y in a run play, just follow him to the football. This is basic stuff these guys should be reading, but Gary did his job. Plus grade
1:59 - A rare loaf for Gary on a run up the middle. Not sure if he just didnt find the football quick enough, but did nothing but low energy hand fighting with the OT the whole play. Minus grade
1:18 - Run away from Gary, does a veteran move to reroute the TE in case of play action and solid pursuit to the ball. Plus grade
:33 - Pass, Good inside move to get Dart moving and create a pressure. Side note, but Barham gets demolished here, probably should have been a penalty because of how far the OT rode him upfield. Plus grade for Gary though

5:38 - Pass, entire defense fooled by play action, 16 yard gain for NY - Minus play
5:01 - Draw, Gary blocked out of the play - minus play
4:19 - Pass - Decent push by Gary but #0 and 6 beat him to the QB for the pressure credit - Plus play
4:14 - Pass - No pressure, nowhere close to getting to the QB - Minus grade
2:00 - Run right at Gary and he jumps inside leaving his gap exposed for an 8 yard gain. With the way he jumped inside it could be a gap exchange with the LBs, but Gary moved so slow that even if it was he did the LBs dirty. Minus play.
:49 - Pass - straight bullrush with a slight push but not real pressure - Minus grade
:45 - Pass - tries to rip around the outside shoulder of the RT but just gets washed back. No pressure - Minus grade
:40 - Pass - Dart has all day to throw, no pressure - minus grade
:35 - Pass - No pressure at all - minus grade

The early games are starting so I'm stopping at the end of the 1st half, but overall there were a few good plays, but a lot of bad not from just the Cowboys but specifically Gary. He needs to play better if this team is going to have a chance.
