Weaveworld by Clive Barker 7/10

I was put off by the ending, but it doesn't affect my rating.

-Relic By Preston and Child

I finally read this book last week. I've been meaning to read this and the other books for a while now. I guess i was inspired by Scipio's review of the 3rd book. I enjoyed Relic. I think its a good read. Someone described it as a cross between Jurassic Park and Alien, and i think that's pretty fitting. I liked the pace and the characters. I'm assuming they will further develop the characters in the books following this one. I just started Reliquary, which is the second book.

Did you know that Relic was made into a film during the late 90s or early 2000s?

World of Warcraft: Stormrage 4 / 10

This book could have easily been two and I probably would have gave it a higher rating if it had. I took off some due to the book dragging on and almost repeating itself of sort.

I've always been a big fan of Richard Knaack, but I cannot say that about this book. His writing style was kind of disappointing in this book. What I mean by that is it's a fantasy book and you expect it to not be believable, but just be entertaining. My problem was in this book, he kept pushing unbelievable even in fantasy. Basically if you read Warcraft books, you know almost all the characters in the book already. In this book, he kept coming up with new abilities that never existed before and they would do incredible feats of endurance and he would make special note that it has never been done before. ...then it would continue, and continue, and continue... Then when the book is finally at an end, (of course) he collapses of exhaustion. Combine that with the fact that it was basically two books in one. Well, I was annoyed with it enough to want to finish one book and ended up reading two of the same stuff.

Disappointing.

The Relic: 5.4 / 10 Stars.

Guess it's not. I've never seen it though. I do remember when it came out though.

I wasn't impressed with it at the time. It completely omits everyone's favorite Lincoln and Child character: Special Agent Pendergast.

Wow......that's just silly. He is the most interesting character in the book through whom most of the story unfolds. He really does hold the story together. I just don't see how they can try and make it work without him. I might have to watch the movie just to see how they managed to tell the story without that character.

I followed the link nyc provided to see which characters are in the movie and i don't even see Smithback (the reporter) listed. He is probably the other most interesting character in the book, in addition to Lt. D'Agosta. Crazy!

Orange Crush by Tim Doresy

I was a little let down by this book as I expected a bit more. I have become a huge fan of Carl Hiassan in the last year so i asked around for another author who has the same writing style and sense of humor and someone recommended Tim Dorsey to me. The book was funny in some parts but mostly his humor came across as a little forced. The storyline was OK but his attempt at trying to make every little thing funny and over the top became tiring real fast and lost its appeal. Maybe if he paced himself a bit more it would have worked better. To be sure, i have read that his first two books were much better and his main character who is the main vehicle for his humor played a bigger role in those books . I would probably give Orange Crush 3 of 5 stars, i would go as far as giving it 3.5 simply because it deals with the silliness and underhandedness that is evolved with political elections.

-Salem's Lot by Stephen King

This is the only other book I've ever read by King other than The Dark Tower series (which i read within the last year). It was simple but a great read. I loved it. I will definitely read a few more of his books (Yes, for some reason it has taken me this long to read books written King). I already have The Stand on my shelf waiting to be read and i recently bought the two books he co-authored with Peter Straub, The Talisman and Black House. I've heard that Black House is not really that great, especially compared to The Talisman.

-Another Man's Moccasins by Craig Johnson

I picked up this book without knowing anything about it and i am glad i did. The story revolves around a Wyoming Sheriff by the name of Walt Longmire, a very interesting character. The book is a crime mystery but has a western feel to it, which i enjoy a lot. I was really impressed with the author and the simplicity, yet elegance, in his writing. I plan on picking up his other books based on the same character in the near future.

I finished reading Y:the last man(a graphic novel),i am not a Graphic novel fan but the characters in this were extremely well written.I wouldn't be surprised to see this in a movie or a TV show.

"2030" by Albert Brooks

A pretty good story about what life will be like in the future. It touches on subjects mentioned in the thread "5 science facts that will blow your mind". This is Brooks' first novel I believe. He has written screen plays and movies. I think he did a good job. Easy read.

The stand is great and you should like it. You are correct that the Talisman (imo) is much better than the black house however I think that you will still enjoy it as both fall in line with stuff from the tower series.

I would also suggest getting IT, The Green mile, Dreamcatcher, and Christine.

If you really like the Stand...you might want to check out Swan Song by Robert McCammon.

If you are a fan of Brooks, you might want to check out a recent Adam Carolla pod cast with Brooks as his guest.

I've only read two of his books (Green Mile and Thinner), but both were great. I own another (Can't remember which), but for some reason I just never read it.

I like his compilation of short stories and novellas.

"Different Seasons" is great. It has 4 novellas and were the basis for the movies, Stand by Me, Shawshank Redemption and Apt Pupil. The story of Apt Pupil is far better than the movie.

"Nightmares & Dreamscapes" is a good one.

Thanks guys, i will check those out.

Has anyone here read Imajica by Clive Barker? If so, how good is it?

I picked up the 1st of the two books but haven't read it yet.

The Charm School - Nelson DeMille 7.5/10

Good read, as are all of DeMille's books, and it really takes you inside life in the USSR during the 80's cold war. Interesting plot and as with most of his novels, it stems off of real life events or theories.

Is there any way we can get this and the movie thread stickied??

Haven't gone through the whole thread to see if these were posted yet...

'One Second After'
- Post SHTF type book. Well written. Really makes you take stock of your personal preps.

For fantasy lovers:
'Riftwar Saga' Raymod E Feist. 3rd read through. One of my favorite authors.
