A Storm of Swords.

Finished it around midnight last night. Wow, easily the best book of the series to date. I was going to take a week's break before picking up the next book, but the Epilogue put an end to that nonsense.

I read the first seventy pages of A Feast for Crows instead of going to bed. :D

I finished ASOS (Definite 10/10) on Saturday and started AFFC Sunday. I've been dreading it because I know AFFC is by far my least favorite of the series, and the first 60 pages reminds me exactly why it's the book I remember the least about. All the Dornish stuff and Iron Islands stuff is not really my cup of tea, especially when we have to go through all the introductory stuff with those sections. It just kills the momentum from ASOS. It doesn't help that most of the really good characters that I like are completely (or very nearly so) missing from this book.

I know it's not a bad book, but I just want to get to ADWD already, and I want to continue with the major story elements (or characters) that were going on at the end of ASOS. I also know I need to refresh myself before I do.

Just got a storm of swords so I am a happy camper.:D

Glitz by Elmore Leonard

Pretty good, fun and quick read. A well written crime novel.

American Gods - 8/10

The pacing is a little off from time and time and I ultimate found the end of the book unsatisfying, but the journey is worth it.

Finished Storm of swords the other day, Started feast of Crows.

Going to be hard to top the action in Storm of Swords IMO.

A Storm of Swords was killer. It was a book in the series that seemed like so many chapters were good. You would have a few chapters that when you got to them you wished you could skip to a different ones (like the Davos ones).

However so far A feast for crows is just the opposite. It seems like so far (between the first 300-400 pages) I have been wanting to skip through most chapters to get to some of the other characters chapters that were so good in the last book. Even some characters that were boring.

This one is just really boring me with the iron island characters and the dornish characters.

Hope it gets better.

I am sure the iron isle and dornish characters will play a much bigger role in the next books in the series but so far they have been boring chapters to read.

A guy I work with read all the books and well, he said all the books after Storm of Swords are pretty boring. He said all the do is meander around doing nothing. I'm kind of worried about reading them. I will read Storm of Swords once I finish my current book, but I can't say I'm hyped about reading beyond that. Two more books of a 1,000+ pages of boring isn't something I want to do.

I will read a lot more reviews before I go beyond SoS.

Well it is hard just to stop for me. I don't think I could just give them up after putting so much time into it. Plus the others were really good so I hope it can get back on track.

Yes, it took a lot patience to get through A Feast for Crows. It was a huge let down and the epilogue, where he claimed A Dance With Dragons was pretty much complete really made things even worse.

Can you clarify the bold statement?

My guess is he wrote that in Feast of Crows in 2007 and the Dance with dragons came out in 2011.

So if he wrote it was almost complete...it should not have taken around 4 years.

On a side note...I don't know how many books he intends to write for this series...I got the impression that the current one is not the last so I hate the idea that we might have to wait another 4-5 years for the next one.

Feast was published in 2005 so it was 6 years in between. There should be 2 more books after Dance.
He did mention that it was almost done but then he scrapped everything he had done and started over. That's why it took so long.

You will get pretty angry with Feast. It is a big let down on many levels. Most of the best POVs are left out. I'm only about 1/2 way through Dance so I can't comment on it yet.

A Dance With Dragons was more in line with the other books, with regards to the quality.

Looking back, I really wish that I waited until the entire series was complete before starting to read the series. There are so many characters, plots and sub-plots that one is tempted to re-read some of the previous books before reading the latest book.

When The Winds of Winter comes out, I will have probably forgot a lot of the stuff I read in ADWD.

One way I will try to keep things fresh in my mind is to go to the site below every now and then:
http://asoiaf.westeros.org/

The site is full of spoilers, so be careful when you go there.

The Lincoln Lawyer 8/10

Pretty solid book by Michael Connolly. It's not my favorite of his, not even in the top 5 really, but it was a very good book. I really enjoyed the characters and the story he told. It was, to some degree, pretty predictable as some of the stuff unfolded but it was done well non the less.

To me, it feels like AFFC is a "filler" book. The whole books seems to set the stage for the next one.

Semi Spoiler Altert!!!!
I was however a little surprised that Cersei got a little feline frisky in AFFC. HBO should probably skip ahead to that chapter next season. :p:

The Ship of Destiny by Robin Hobb

7/10

I thought she tried to do too much in the last book of the Liveship Traders Series but overall, it was great ride and the book was pretty good.

Anybody got any suggestions for my next fantasy series? I thought about moving on to Robin Hobb's Tawny Man Series but I thought I would do some searching before I committed to this series.

Have you read The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss? Three book series and only the first two are out so far, but I enjoyed them.

They made the NPRs top 100 sci fi and fantasy list.

Speaking of which, plenty of good books on here:
