Yeah, he was really good. Amy Adams was the weak link in the film.

Really?? She's a great actress. Surprising. You guys have me intrigued. I may have to see this one sooner rather than later.

Mr Holmes - A bit slow paced but really enjoyed it. 8 / 10

An aged, retired Sherlock Holmes deals with early dementia as he tries to remember both his final case and a mysterious woman whose memory haunts him. He also befriends a fan, the young son of his housekeeper, who wants him to work again.

He's a gifted character actor, Joseephus! Have you seen Take Shelter? He's creepy good, awesome story, cinemagraphy, writing, directing, with a lovely ambiguous ending.

He's also amazing in Boardwalk Empire

I loved him in Bug and Shotgun Stories.

I've never been a fan of her work and have often wondered how she gets the roles she does.

Have you seen American Hustle? The Fighter? The Master? Her? She's a fantastic actress. I'm a cinephile, she stacks up. She isn't Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep (who she co-starred with in Julie and Julia), or Julianne Moore, but she's really good, Stash.

Why do you wonder that?

Edit -- The best under-40 actress right now, and it's not even close, is Jessica Chastain. Then Jennifer Lawrence. Chastain is a fantastic character actress, in a world of her own, but I digress.

Sounds like I've missed a good portion of her work. I know her from Enchanted, Night at the Museum, Arrival, and the Superman films. I've never been big on her but it sounds like I've just missed her 'good stuff'.

Stash, you have. :) The best portion of her work.

Edit -- Night at the Museum is so fun. I was pleasantly surprised when I first watched it way back in 04 or 05. Nick Cage has some legit gems, and surprisingly, this is one of them.

Michael Shannon plays a certain type of character and he plays it well.

I'm still waiting for him to do a romantic comedy.

Same here. I also don't understand why she gets cast with men 10+ years younger than her.

Who is 10 years younger than her? Henry Cavill is 9 years younger, Jake Gyllenhal is 6 years younger, Jeremy Renner is 4 years older and Christian Bale is the same age.

I think she is a fine actress. I also find her to be quite cute. I really enjoyed her role in Sunshine Cleaning.

Gonna see Fences this weekend. Nothing seems very interesting right now. Liked Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight. Very unique movies. Still haven't seen Arrival. Probably wait till it's on Netflix/Prime.

Jason Bourne - 5/10. A thoughtless, joyless, uncreative sequel made for apparently no other reason than to make a buck. As a fan of the previous installments, this one was a real letdown for me. It looks like they're out of ideas and this should put this thing to rest.

That about sums it up perfectly.

I agree Adams is a very good actress (but would never wish anyone watch American Hustle or The Master). On the other hand, I think Streep is one of the most overrated actresses who is usually overacting to a great degree. Same with Julianne Moore. In fact, I would put Adams above all 3 (though I generally like Lawrence).

First, American Hustle, for me, was fantastic. The Master may have been a bit disjointed, and slow for some, but the acting was superb.

Julianne Moore in Still Alice was phenomenal. She's a great actress, imo. Great range. Meryl Streep is an icon, and widely regarded as one of the best ever, but I have heard people with the same arguement. I always harken back to The Deer Hunter. JLaw, in Winter's Bone, is some of the finest acting I've ever seen. But you get a Like for liking Adams and Lawrence, ChildsPlay :)

Still, Jessica Chastain is the gold standard for actresses under 40.

Also, to the above posters, Amy Adams is gorgeous.

Hell or High Water. Jeff Bridges. Texas. Bank robbers. Cinematography outstanding. No sentimentality that destroys film/literature. In the same vein as No Country for Old Men. 8.5/10 and I'm very high brow with my films, so that's a hard grade to receive from me, for whatever it's worth.

Today taking the little one to Rogue One at the AMC 16. Heard good things and have refused to read any reviews :)

yeah, sounds like i need to see Hell or High Water
(a man's movie)
