Rate the last movie you saw

My wife doesn't like them either. So when I do watch them it's on the TV in my office.

The horror genre either clicks for you or it doesn't.

When I was growing up I'd much rather go see "The Legend of Boggy Creek" as opposed to a Disney flick. LOL!

"Office" are you working on the anecdote? jk, I get it now as I got older, "your clubhouse" ;) Growing up, I thought all these dads were working on a masterpiece or suttn? Yaw hiding from the wife;)

Caught this the other day. As I was watching I recalled hearing about the events being portrayed in the movie in the news from several years ago. Judging it strictly as a movie, it wasn't good. Judging it as a re-telling of true events, it is just sad. It was hard to believe people were that dumb. I did a little research just to reacquaint myself with what was reported in the news. The movie actually portrays the people involved a little smarter than they were in real life and the characters were pretty dumb.

I just read the Wiki about this. I cannot believe that so many people fell for that scam.

I can understand falling for the scam to some small degree; however, I can't understand the extent to which some of these people fell.

Had not heard of the situation so I looked up the movie on IMDB and someone in the comments section posted a link to a youtube video about it. Hard to believe all of that happened.

Hotel Transylvania. (With the kiddo). 8.5/10

The Adam Sandler / Andy Samberg flick has a good message behind it, and I surprisingly enjoyed the entire movie. I think Sandler is at his best in some of these animated films lately.

Man I don't see how you guys like that stuff. But then my wife won't watch anything like that because it upsets her so. Maybe that's part of why I don't like horror flicks. But I never liked them much.

I am not a fan of horror either, but it's usually because they are just terrible movies in general. There are a few good ones here and there, but it's a rare thing. I had heard The Conjuring was a bit different and good, but it turned out to be a run of the mill movie that offered nothing new. As for You're Next, I thought it was pretty bad, with some of the dumbest characters I've seen in quite some time. Outside of the main character being a bit of a badass, there was nothing redeeming about it IMO.

I agree wholeheartedly--and this is from someone who enjoys the genre. Last horror movie and can remember enjoying was 'Event Horizon'.

Captain America: Winter Soldier - 7/10
Action was fantastic, well shot, cast and all that but the plot was painfully predictable and it wasn't as much fun as Avengers.

Parkland 8.5/10

Deals with those people thrown into the assassination and the struggles that they went through Nov 22 thru Nov 25 and frankly the rest of their lives.

It also shines light on several strange things that happened that became fuel for conspiracy theories.

Yeah, I thought "Parkland" was a very good flick.

"I Declare War"

Kind of a weird flick, but a good watch.

Basically the story of two groups of kids playing "Capture the flag", but with a much more serious tone than when many of us played it as kids. Sort of a mixture of "Stand By Me" and "Lord of the Flies".

7/10.

Two For the Money. 5/10.

Pretty lame. There's about 30 cumulative minutes of Mcconaughey working out. Decent cast and subject matter, but terrible script.

From 1997... really?

I think you're more of a "critic-fan" than a "fan". LOL!

I get that most characters in horror movies do dumb things... it's simply part of the genre, and has been part of it since silent era.

And the plots are all going to be mostly rehashes of a previous plot– to one extend or another. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying a horror-flick with a plot-twist that hasn't been beaten to death like what was presented in "You're Next" or "Berlin Undead". Certainly good acting and a unique location can drive a horror flick like "The Dead" up the scale for me also.

30 Days of Night, The Strangers, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later, The Descent and Pan's Labyrinth are all very good movies since 1997.

Yay, well 30 Days of Night just arrived for me to watch, from Netflix, yesterday. Why they sent that pretty lame sequel first, not sure...but looking forward to the original...

Very good list BZ. I had forgotten about "The Strangers" and "The Descent" which were both very good in their own way. I guess I don't get the whole, "They haven't made a good horror film in 17 years" kinda thing.

Some ok movies on that list, no great horror flix though. Wouldn't even classify some as horror. Shaun is a comedy and Pan's more of a fantasy. Cabin Fever was another I thought was well done, I forgot about.

Did you mean Cabin in the Woods? I thought Cabin Fever was one of the worst ever. Along the lines of Hostel and others that are basically all about showing lots of gore and trying to pass it off as horror.
