I read that Ratliff injured his hamstring during his conditioning test and is getting an MRI.

Any word on the severity? An MRI doesn't sound good but for all know these guys get an MRI for everything.

I share your rancor...but ultimately, as far as his failure foes, I blame ourselves...the ridiculous contract extension, which now means he ain't going nowhere, was a completely self-inflicted wound...one of the dumber decisions we've made in a series of dumb contract decisions. Secondly, I believe we ruined him by playing him out of position all those years at NT in our 3/4 when it was clear that he should've been a DE primarily in that scheme due to his lack of ideal size...his body wore down very quickly absorbing that level of punishment of always taking on double teams, etc. Now we're getting the lingering effects of that abuse.

Actually, he hurt himself while PASSING the conditioning test and fighting through the tweaked hammy, but don't let htat get in the way of your agenda.

I have no agenda. His injury history speaks for itself. I've never questioned his heart, but his ability to stay healthy.

Ratliff is on the roster for one reason -- his contract makes it too painful to cut him. He did a lot of dirty work on DL for many years and was one of the top NTs in the NFL, however, I have very little expectation he is going to be able to contribute at this stage of his career.

Hopefully i am wrong.

Your agenda is indeed showing...

Between 2008 and 2011, Ratliff never missed a game.

For what it's worth, he finished the conditioning test after he strained it.

Doesn't sound at all like it should keep him from playing against the Giants.

How did we potentially lose two players to a conditioning test? Something about that just sounds completely wrong.

It certainly does speak for itself.. and what does it say?

Until last season the last time he missed a game was in 2007.

..and the last time he missed more than one game in a season? His rookie year.

But yea, no agenda for you.

OK, I will bite. How many games did Ware last year? Would you not agree that last few games he was a shell of himself because of his shoulder injury? Ratliff has been injured for 3 years and it has affected his play on the field. He had that elbow surgery in 2010, hurt his calf in 2010, he had rib cage muscle problems in 2011, and was hurt last year with ankle and groin injuries. There is a reason why his numbers have declined in almost every category since 2010.

I dont buy that at all, not for one second. The guy has been the ONLY player on defense to play with any emotion. Injuries just caught up with him.

Hes still our best DT, his problem is staying on the field. He was just as explosive as ever last year when he got the chance to play. He could have a monster year in this defense when he isnt constantly being asked to eat up double teams.

This guy has given as much as any two players on this defense over the past 7 or 8 years. He's the only guy who ever looked like he actually cared that we lost. The fact that people bag on him so much is just ridiculous. People quickly forget that he was killing himself in 2009 and 10 when we were so thin on DLine that he was playing every snap and multiple positions so that other guys could get a rest.

There certainly is.. and that reason is that we decided to switch to the 34, and played him at NT, a position where he was completely out of place and asked to basically smash his face into a brick wall down after down for no apparent reason.

Ratliff was the 7th ranked DT/NT in the NFL in 2011... Yeah, even while battling injuries.

If you have information that says he was a "dreg" in 2011... I'd love to see it.

He was the 20th rated DT/NT in 2010.
