Looking back....Could this blocked FG have saved the season? If we don't make the playoffs then obviously not, but if we do....I know that we would have had 3 + minutes to have gotten into FP, but you talk about a DRIVE WITH A LITTLE BIT OF PRESSURE ON IT....I would have hated to have gone into the bye with a loss to the Chiefs. The guy is a monster.

This one play or win does not save the season. Could it make a difference from here on out...maybe. But right now, I say no it does not. There is too much football left to be played against much better teams.

that to me was the game turning play,
i dont like some things that wade does, but he was right when wade said now some players realize that they can step up and make plays, you have to have that, knowing who some of your playmakers are

its as simple as that, wade isnt going to discipline the team, even though he said changes are coming, but were back to the same ole thing, the players now have to step up, witten, romo, brooking, ratliff all stepped up and made players accountable

I agree about it being a long season, and I was being overly dramatic to make the point that it was a huge play in a football game that we HAD to win. IMO, if everyone gave effort like he did we wouldn't have near the problems we have.

I don't think its too far fetched to say he's the best player on the Cowboys. This season anyway. He's been a MONSTER. All that talk about him being to small and we need to look for another NT? I don't think he could do on the outside what he does in the middle. That's just my opinion. For a nose tackle he's fast and athletic. He has a field day with those guards and centers around the league.

I can't think of one time where someone stepping up did so by blocking a field goal. That's unbelievable to me. He deserves as much credit for the win as Austin and Romo do.

Ratliff nearly blocked the 38-yarder in the third quarter be doing the exact same thing. He just hurdled between the snapper and the guard.

Awesome play. I guess I heard someone on one of the postgame shows say it, so I looked during one of the replays, and Jay almost got the FG before that the same way. That time he didn't quite make it all way way over the linemen... This time he did.

Guys like Jay are why this team's demise has been greatly exaggerated.

Edit, darn you Adam... :)

Right. But if they go on to the playoffs, and play better as expected from here on out. People will look back to this play and game as one that propelled them on.

The crazy thing is, he almost blocked the field goal before that one as well. You can't find a guy that size that athletic. Especially at nose tackle.

I agree. Also, if you watch the replay from the Denver game, which is painful, who is the player running full speed a step behind Marshall in the end zone???? Ratliff from the freakin NT position. Guy gives crazy effort!

we beat the vikings in 07 on a chris canty blocked field goal and pat watkins return for a TD.

That game was lackluster effort filled with turnovers that we escaped with a win because of canty blocked field goal also.

the play by ratliff is simply amazing though. The fact that a man his size can do that is awesome. So far this year we have seen ratliff cover ahmad bradshaw in the flat while lininup at nose tackle, we have seen him bullrush two guys into the backfield and get a sack and now this.

Ratliff is simplay an incredible player.

If the rest of the team would give the kind of effort that Austin did Sunday, & Rat has done all season, we would be undefeated. I know we had four sack yesterday, but the rush still has a ways to go. No way should a great team let a team like KC march down the field like that to tie the score in the last minute. That's the third time in five games, and we lost the other two.

I love the play, but is it legal to hold down the O-linemen the way the Cowboys did on those plays? They put all their weight on the backs of the two Chief players to prevent them from coming out of their stance to give Ratliff a shot to block it. It was very clear on the replay. If it is legal why don't more teams try this every week?

If it's legal now, it won't be legal for long... That's how things work with the Cowboys.

True statement.

Maybe Adam knows the letter of the law regarding that play.

Adam? You there buddy?

The play did not happen the way you described. The KC lineman were in the habit of submarining the DL on kicks and Ratliff remarked on it after the game. This was something Ratliff said they picked up on tape.

It is in fact against NFL rules to hold down a player while another runs through or over them to make a block but--this is not what happened on this play.

Agree, I didn't see it that way at all. I have seen them call that before when it did happen though.
