Ratliff, Cowboys get credit on salary cap?

If he had been playing this season and was cut, then any salary paid by the new team would be deducted from the Cowboys cap. They would also save that amount in real money.

However, in the Rat situation, he was on the PUP list which prevented his base salary from being guaranteed for the season. The Cowboys were able to quit paying his base salary when he was cut; therefore, there was no benefit to the Cowboys when he signed with the Bears.

Thanks for the reply. That was what I was looking for.

I haven't followed this all that closely. Everyone was keeping quiet at the time of his release, has anything new come out of this yet?

Last I remember, it seemed like Ratliff's camp basically lied about his condition which led to the Cowboys releasing him. And now he's suddenly okay to go?

Or do I have that wrong?

No it's exactly the same as you just described. Sets a terrible precedent and like another poster mentioned, who is his agent? Fat SB, fake injury, released to pursue other teams? Made out like a fat RAT

If that's the case and the Ratliff camp mislead the Cowboys front office and training department, then I don't reasonably see how the Cowboys don't get cap space credited back to them next year.

Well, actually I do. Things like this never go in our favor.

After that bogus cap penalty for Austin, I am not holding my breathe on the league giving us any cap room back for Rat.

This just isn't going to happen. Never going to prove this. A doctor would never say anything 100% definitive like "no chance of playing" or anything like that.

Do keep in mind that another team got blasted worse than us. And really, no one believes the league has it out for the Skins.

The weird part of the story is that they cut him instead of putting him on IR and just telling him to stay away from the facility. It prevents them from making him a June 1st cut in 2014 and forces them to take all of the dead-money hit (~6.9M) in 2014.

Also forces Jerry to walk away. I suspect JG wanted this for some time. Not RKG by any stretch

Hard to say. Remember, Ratliff and Jerry got into a huge shouting match in the locker room that one time, had to be separated.

The thing that's dijointed, is that Rats agent said that he had a musle torn from the bone and couldn't possibly play for at least a year. Cowboys brass claim he only had a sports hernia. Either way, somebody completely wrong. Either Rat ttotally lied or the Cowboys medical are complete idiots
Or rat intentionally kept medical information from Jerry.
If his injury was to degree he claims, they would not have had him partiiating in camp so early.
Sorry for typos, BB is hard to manage on the commute to work.

I hope Rat was wearing a mask when he took that bonus from the Cowboys, because he sure robbed them.

You would think the team would have maybe had him examined by a doctor or something

Do NFL teams have the right to medically examine a player? If teams do and a player refuses, are the contractual consequences? I'm assuming this would be the meat of a lawsuit by the Cowboys. But I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express or gone to a law school.

I see your point. If the Rat.ntentionally went outside the team doctors for evaluation and was not forthcoming with their findings the Cowboys should have a legal leg to stand on.

Nobody knows exactly what happend. But after all i think there must have been some major issues between the Dallas owner/Front office and Ratliff.

But because most people love to have scapegoats and it's easier/funnier to bash on someone then to bother about truth or even showing tolenrance and respect.
Alot posters on this board decided to brag with their good education and bash on Ratlif.
