You do realize that most UT fans are anti-Simms....even though he actually had a very nice winning percentage and put up decent numbers against every team not named OU or Colorado.

We are still bitter, and always will be about how Simms was handed the job over Applewhite. IMO, with Applewhite as the starter, we would have gone undefeated at least up until the National Championship game. Yes, I believe UT would have played for the National Championship that year had Major been the QB all year. I am not saying we would have won the game, but we would have been playing in it.

I want Dallas to get Simms. He has a strong arm, and after the spleen injury, he showed major heart playing the rest of that game. He has to be better than Johnson. I am just wondering how good of a holder he is. Brad is one of the best holders in the league. If I had my druthers, I would take Charlie Batch over anyone else....but Pittsburgh has him safely tucked away.

So, is Flacco gonna get the start?
QB Flacco to start opener for Ravens

BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT (TICKER) —The Baltimore Ravens have named rookie quarterback Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback for the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN reported Monday.

The Ravens’ first-round pick and second quarterback taken in the draft behind Matt Ryan, Flacco started Baltimore’s final two preseason games and played well in Thursday’s 13-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Flacco, the 18th overall selection in the draft, completed 8-of-13 passes for 72 yards. He left early in the second quarter after directing a 63-yard drive that produced a field goal.

First-year Baltimore coach John Harbaugh had almost no choice but to name the 6-6 Flacco as the starter. Troy Smith remains sidelined with infected tonsils and Kyle Boller, who lost the starting job to Smith late last season, could be out for several weeks with a shoulder injury.

Flacco enjoyed a stellar career at Delaware after transferring from Pittsburgh. Last season, he led the Blue Hens to the title game of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, where they lost to defending three-time champion Appalachian State.

The Ravens are coming off a 5-11 season that led to the firing of former coach Brian Billick

In college, or in the NFL?

College was 5 years ago for him.
He won the Starting Job in TB (beating out Brad Johnson) and lost it to injury. He must have had something going.

And how'd he perform most recently, in 2006, before getting hurt?

As for the Chris Simms posse, how many of you are Longhorn fans? I can't think of any other reason why some are so enamored with bringing him in (other than his youth compared to Brad).

I don't know that Simms is an upgrade over Brad Johnson, who is in his 2nd year in Garrett's system and who has previous history with Garrett as well.

And with the season starting, how long would it take for Simms to be comfortable with the system?

Hopefully more comfortable than he was the last time he saw game action... 1 TD, 7 INTs, and a 46.3 QB rating in his only 3 starts in 2006.
I'm not in the Simms posse but I prefer him to Bollinger so I am going to answer.

No, I am not a Longhorns fan. I was recruited by them but I originally signed to play for the hated rival, A & M. I suppose if that goal had worked I should never want a Longhorn on the team, but the truth of the matter is I just want talent on the team.

I consider Simms a better prospect as a future solution to our backup needs after Brad Johnson retires than Bollinger is. Maybe someone would be willing to trade us something for Simms. I know no one would for Bollinger.

Some would say no one wanted to trade with Tampa, but let's be honest, Simms is returning from a devestating injury where he showed toughness and not many have seen what he can do. No one knows why he fell out of favor with Jon Gruden, but Gruden himself said he always prepared and played well.

My thoughts on backup QB are always greedy. I want guys that other team might want, and if they want them might pay to get them. Hence why I was excited about the Beck rumors. Maybe those aren't completely dead. Henne is their QB of the future. If they can get something for Beck maybe they take it and go grab a vet for the backup spot while Henne learns as the #3 guy.

I can still hope.

Beck is a loser baby........hehehehehe

BTW, I wouldn't mind Beck or Troy Smith if either were available. If Leftwich weren't such a flippin statue, I wouldn't mind him. He is tough, plays injured, and has a nice arm.....unfortunately elderly with walkers have greater elusiveness than Leftwich.

According to Mickey Spagnola, Chris Simms supposedly wants more money than we are willing to pay for a third string quarterback.

If he doesn't want to be here, I could care less about him. He is not that good.

Plus, I couldn't stand his father. At all.

HARRINGTON REPORT PREMATURE

Posted by Mike Florio on September 1, 2008, 7:23 p.m.

Despite a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that free-agent quarterback Joey Harrington has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens, a league source tells us that Harrington has not yet signed — and might not.

Per the source, Harrington has another visit lined up for Tuesday.

We’re not saying that he won’t sign with Baltimore, but as of right now he hasn’t.

Baltimore wanted him, but found out that he wasn't very good

Joey Harrington-QB-Ravens Sep. 1 - 5:10 pm et

Ravens signed QB Joey Harrington, formerly of the Falcons.
Harrington was better than Chris Simms in Monday's workout, so he got the nod. Simms should start exploring options in Dallas and Chicago. Harrington has little time to get ready for the opener and probably isn't a candidate to start against Cincinnati, but was needed with Troy Smith and Kyle Boller out indefinitely. Look for Boller (shoulder) now to go on injured reserve.

Maybe the Simms workout and potential signing with Baltimore is what spurred the Bollinger rumors? Maybe Simms comes back into the picture?

I want to know who you think should be cut and either get picked up by another team or go to the PS and still be vunerable as long as they are on the PS. Obviously the guy who gets cut goes to PS if he clears waivers and likely Bartel goes. But that's not fact either.

So who gets cut to put a QB on the squad who no one else wants. Ball? Supposedly he plays STs. I'm not in favor of this move at all.

What did people on this board think of Andre Woodson before the draft? I'd been keeping my eye on Anthony Wright b/c I think he'd be able to take advantage as a backup of some of the things Romo does in this offense, but with him on IR and Woodson released, wouldn't a true developmental player make more sense as a #3 than a never-has-been like Brooks Bollinger?
