He won the Starting Job in TB (beating out Brad Johnson) and lost it to injury. He must have had something going.Nav22;2227673 said:In college, or in the NFL?

And how'd he perform most recently, in 2006, before getting hurt?He won the Starting Job in TB (beating out Brad Johnson) and lost it to injury. He must have had something going.
I'm not in the Simms posse but I prefer him to Bollinger so I am going to answer.Nav22;2227632 said:Harrington > Ryan Leaf

As for the Chris Simms posse, how many of you are Longhorn fans? I can't think of any other reason why some are so enamored with bringing him in (other than his youth compared to Brad).
I don't know that Simms is an upgrade over Brad Johnson, who is in his 2nd year in Garrett's system and who has previous history with Garrett as well.
And with the season starting, how long would it take for Simms to be comfortable with the system?
Hopefully more comfortable than he was the last time he saw game action... 1 TD, 7 INTs, and a 46.3 QB rating in his only 3 starts in 2006.

No, I am not a Longhorns fan. I was recruited by them but I originally signed to play for the hated rival, A & M. I suppose if that goal had worked I should never want a Longhorn on the team, but the truth of the matter is I just want talent on the team.
I consider Simms a better prospect as a future solution to our backup needs after Brad Johnson retires than Bollinger is. Maybe someone would be willing to trade us something for Simms. I know no one would for Bollinger.
Some would say no one wanted to trade with Tampa, but let's be honest, Simms is returning from a devestating injury where he showed toughness and not many have seen what he can do. No one knows why he fell out of favor with Jon Gruden, but Gruden himself said he always prepared and played well.
My thoughts on backup QB are always greedy. I want guys that other team might want, and if they want them might pay to get them. Hence why I was excited about the Beck rumors. Maybe those aren't completely dead. Henne is their QB of the future. If they can get something for Beck maybe they take it and go grab a vet for the backup spot while Henne learns as the #3 guy.
I can still hope.

Joey Harrington-QB-Ravens Sep. 1 - 5:10 pm et
Ravens signed QB Joey Harrington, formerly of the Falcons.
Harrington was better than Chris Simms in Monday's workout, so he got the nod. Simms should start exploring options in Dallas and Chicago. Harrington has little time to get ready for the opener and probably isn't a candidate to start against Cincinnati, but was needed with Troy Smith and Kyle Boller out indefinitely. Look for Boller (shoulder) now to go on injured reserve.
Maybe the Simms workout and potential signing with Baltimore is what spurred the Bollinger rumors? Maybe Simms comes back into the picture?
