There are definitely issues on offense. But it's basiacally the same system few teams could stop last season. The issue isn't with its design. It's with execution right now.

Defenses have adjusted to what the Cowboys did last season. The check downs to Beasley and Witten are harder to come by, and they're determined to not let Zeke beat them. So either we start doing some different things or beat them down field when the outside receivers are one-on-one. Until one of those things happen consistently, execution is going to be more difficult than it was last year.

Pop Warner is a good way to describe our offensive scheme. It's heartbreaking to watch other games around the league and see the creativity used to cover for teams' weaknesses.

There is not and never has been an ounce of creativity in a JG scheme in his decade here.

Meanwhile, with the offensive issues we've had this season, points per offensive series: 7th.

Care to guess where we are defensively?

That's sort of the issue. We were overwhelming defenses with talent last year. Leary was a beast. Beard and Martin were otherworldy. Tyron was Tyron. Free even had his moments, certainly in run blocking, and when he failed Dak and Zeke were on an other level. Even Witten was blocking at a good level.

That's what this offensive scheme requires. Players who are simply superior to the defenders at just about every position. This year the players are failing to dominate their head to head matchups. Not a great offensive model...

Double Dez and on 3rd down, double Beasley...and single cover Jason and Williams. Uh, they say let's see you beat us when the pressure is stepped up...and the Cowboys?

I'm not suggesting the offense is the sole or even primary reason we're losing. But when the team is built for the offense to control the ball/clock, it's imperative that they do just that - for better or for worse .

This defense obviously still has issues which are amplified about twice as much without Sean Lee on the field. Last week's defensive effort was flat out embarrassing.

23rd. And we're coming off a game where we gave up points on nine of eleven possessions. That's where the problem still is.

I think the offense is in the process of sorting things out. They've also played some good defenses early and will probably improve for that reason alone.

FRISCO, Texas -- Through four games, the most-asked question regarding the Dallas Cowboys' passing game is about the Dak Prescott-to-Dez Bryant connection. Bryant has 16 catches for 212 yards and two touchdowns, but he has been targeted 40 times. On a few occasions it hasn't looked as if he and Prescott have been on the same page.

But a more pressing question about the state of the Cowboys' passing game might be: Where's WR Cole Beasley?

Through the first four games, Beasley has 11 catches for 86 yards on 20 targets. In the first four games last season, Beasley had 23 catches for 279 yards on his way to career highs in receptions (a team-high 75) and yards (833), and he matched his career high in touchdowns (five).

That's not really what the offense is designed to do. This has been said for years, but the offense is more competitive than most on a per-play basis.

I don't love our scheme, either, but the breakdowns, to the extent we have them, have been execution breakdowns. And the offense is still putting up points.

Meanwhile, our LBs can't cover and our Ss are liabilities in space and our tackling has been subpar so far this season. And we can't take the ball away from anybody. Let's focus on the real reasons we're getting beat.
OFFENSE STINKS!

*once again roll to a top 1-10 experience*

You want creativity on offense? How about activate McFadden and put him and Zeke on the field at the same time occasionally? I mean we know what A. Morris is good for and it isn't creativity. What could McFadden do?

Agreed - I'm far less concerned about the offense going forward as the OL has too much talent to continue to struggle and they have definitely played some stout defenses.

Unfortunately, defensive improvements likely won't come again until the offseason. It's hard to imagine a different ending to this season from last year - the defense shredded by a great QB in the playoffs (if not sooner).

I’d like to see a breakdown, by one of the anyalysts on here, of our offense vs a more complex offense like the Pats or anyone who consistently outschemes the D or the coverage and why ours is inferior.

The defense doesn't seem to have fielded all starters on the carpet yet, a single play for the season.

58 points the last two games. 30 last game despite never starting a drive outside our own 25.

This shows how bad our defense really is. We need the offense to not only score > 30 points, we need the offense to dominate every aspect of the game. We're like a shell shocked survivor, our expectations are just that the defense will of course be awful, so anything less than perfection by the offense isn't tolerated. No argument that the offense is FAR from perfect, and I get that we spend most of our cap on the offensive side, but this defense is really, really bad. Has been for a long time.

In the season opener, the New York Giants put Eli Apple on Beasley. In Week 2, the Denver Broncos put Chris Harris Jr. on him. Two weeks ago, against the Arizona Cardinals, Beasley had to deal with Tyrann Mathieu.

"I think, for the most part, they're clogging the inside of the field. It's kind of obvious," Prescott said. "If Beasley isn't getting his catches, they are putting more bodies on the inside. They are double-covering him. You saw the last game. The safety runs out the middle of the field just to go double-team Beasley. So when you have the year he had ... you are going to draw that attraction."

Perhaps the most curious aspect of Beasley's slow start is his lack of playing time. In the first two games, he played 109 of 145 offensive plays. In the past two games, he has played only 56 of 118 snaps.

We outscored the Patriots last year (not counting week 17, meaningless for both teams). We also played a much tougher schedule of defenses. Just sayin'.
