Ray Sherman not returning

Gee, I wonder if Garrett has a better idea of whether or not Sherman is the best man for the job than all the goobs on this forum?

Not even possible. No way. Nope. Nada.

Well, I will admit this caught me flat footed. I like Ray Sherman, but you have to appreciate the fact that it really is going to Garrett's staff.

That begs the question who?

Well I still think Paul Chryst is coming and possibly his brother Geep from the Panthers. Paul has coached QBs and TEs, maybe John Garrett will move to WRs. Geep also coaches TEs. Perhaps even Paul's hand picked WR coach at Wisconsin, DelVaughn Alexander, who learned under Mike Riley at Oregon State.

There's also Jerry Sullivan who was on the 9ers staff and coaches with Garrett for the Dolphins for a year.

My guess, John Garrett to WRs. But it is only a guess.

What really has he done?

Hurd never turned the corner, Ogletree regressed, Roy never became consistent, Austin lost all focus, and Dez still never knew the offense.

I was thinking the same thing. But I did like Sherman's personality and experience. He seemed to command respect and had worked with some of the best to ever play before coming to Dallas. The guy, theoretically, knows what it takes to succeed at WR in the NFL.

Guys like TO, Crayton, and RW were complainers and I wonder if Garrett had issues with how Sherman handled those players. Perhaps he never clicked with Sherman or felt Ray never had his back in those situations. Who knows? There's so much we don't know that it's really all just speculation. I'm sure some dirt will eventually come out about this stuff in time.

My initial feeling about this is disappointment.

Perhaps Ray will now be at greater liberty to offer some color on his interview for the Cowboys head coach position. Seems logically inconsistent that he would be considered for the HC slot, yet not be allowed to keep his assistant position or be considered for an elevated role on the offensive coaching staff.

I guess Todd Bowles is a fake minority.

Hill is a idiot.

So you think Sherman was interviewed because he had a legit chance at the HC job?

Like most others have said, this is very disappointing. Sherman was a proven successful WR coach in this league. He was stern when needed (as seen on Hard Knocks) and more lenient when necessary. Everyone who thinks all you do to coach these guys up is stomp them into the ground 24/7 is going to find out it's more complex than that.

And it's ridiculous to blame him for TO and Roy talking. Geez, most if not all of our problems on offense weren't even Garrett's problem earlier in the year because they were all Wade's fault... But now a position coach is supposed to be able to mute players at such a noted diva position?

Hope he doesn't end up in the NFCE btw

Lets not get too carried away. I liked him as coach, but he isn't not the greatest WR coach ever either.

Besides does like there has been an issues with WRs talking the media too much. I didn't like Dez's outburst, regardless of the reason he did it. Either the HC or his position coach should have cut that immediately.

So maybe, like article written Watkins about Roy, is one of the reason Sherman is out of here. I am not happy about him leaving but now I understand why it might have occurred.

Not if he was told to keep his WRs in check. I don't know for a fact, but just throwing it out there.

Either way, if thats what Garrett wants, then that is good sign for people claiming, Jerry decides on coaches.

Gold standard.

contract was up and Garrett might want his own guy, plus Sherman might think he can be a OC somewhere. Lots of factors.

Teams shld b required 2 interview minority candidate from outside organization to comply w Rooney Rule. What DAL did w Ray Sherman looks bad

Color me shocked that you'd have a problem with it....not.

Our new HC, who you clearly dislike, apparently asserts himself to name his own staff and you have a complaint.

Had Cowher, Gruden, Fisher or any other coach you wanted walked in here, told Jerry he was naming his own staff and promptly let Sherman go, you woulda been at the front of the line talking about a new sheriff in town.

These guys seriously make money doing this?

I dont even know what to say and before anyone jumps, this has nothing to do with his rooney rule comment but everything to do with his total failure acknowledge Dallas did interview two minority candidates.

I have no complaint about him naming his own staff. That's how it sound be -- I've said that forever.

But I think most people believed, with some basis, that Sherman was maybe the best assistant coach on the entire team. I'm surprised that he of all people is being let go.

If it's all about hating Garrett, why are some of his biggest fans also expressing their disappointment in this thread?

His point was that two should be OUTSIDE the organization regardless of who they interview internally.

Maybe we won't have to have Drew Pearson tell our new WR coach how to get Roy Williams to play smaller rather than opening himself up at the LOS and rounding off his cuts.

This may or may not have been directed at my comments but I just want to clarify what I said. I was not blaming him for the TO, Crayton, RW comments/behaviors. I was saying that perhaps Garrett did not like how Sherman handled those situations. You know when someone has your back or when someone is more of a sounding board for the players and silently agreed with some of their complaints. This is PURE SPECULATION. I have no clue as to what Garrett and Sherman's relationship was like, but it seems possible that Garrett was not Sherman's biggest fan (since he was just let go). We're all just throwing stuff out there right now. Hopefully, we'll find out the real deal over time. Personally, I'm kind of sad to see him leave, but what do I know about what REALLY goes on at Valley Ranch?

So now one isn't enough? I'm all for interviewing minority candidates, and I don't like the idea of some of these "sham" interviews, but come on.
