If you want to see how a RB should protect the ball then you need to watch Gurley,he just doesn't let defenders have a shot at the ball.

Ugh, as much as I like Abdullah, that fumble rate is just awful.

Thanks for this. I assume those are hand sizes in parentheses?

Yes.

All of them that have hand sizes below 8-5/8" are in the bottom 7.

Brown biggest hands, least fumbles.

Big hands no guarantee with Ajayi and Gordon being near the bottom despite good hand size.

Ajayi just doesn't pay attention to ball security too often. I watch him and he just carries it lose a lot. It's a balance thing for him I think. His running style, like many backs, facilitates the strip. JMO

I would not draft Abdullah. I consider anything worse than 1 in 70 to be bad. Abdullah was twice as bad as the 1 in 70 rate.

Some guys swing their arms wildly in an attempt to generate speed.

Murray started swinging his arms more in recent years. I believe it was intentional in an effort to run faster. Many of the Cowboys players go the Michael Johnson Performance Institute in an attempt to increase their speed.

This is also interesting in comparing measured speed in the forty vs game speed. A RB not only has the football equipment in games vs running the forty but also have to carry the ball when running. Some RBs seem more affected by it than others.

It could be that this is what it is for Ajayi, I don't know. I think it's a natural thing for him more then what he might have been instructed to do because he's done this since the first time I saw him at BS but who really knows? Either way, I don't like Ajayi for this reason. He has a lot of talent but the ball security issue is going to be a problem in the NFL IMO.

Thanks for the stats!

Murray's playoff fumble should have counted as 10 though.

Abdullah's number is disgustingly poor.

From the black and blue sections above, I'd obviously love Gurley but also wouldn't mind Coleman, Johnson, Williams or Langsford.

I'm beginning to think its Gurley or bust at RB this year. Don't see any of the rest of them as major upgrades to what we already have

Really? People can have their opinions on Gurley, mine is the guy doesn't have the stamina to be dominant back in the league (Watch how he is after 11-12 snaps). But even he is an upgrade to what we have now. Gordon is the absolute best back in this draft class, then there is Coleman in a close second, then Yeldon and Allen. At least, that's my list.

Beginning to agree. But for me, it's Gordon, Gurley and Coleman

To me, I think Gurley, Coleman and Davis are 1, 2 and 3. Of course, it kinda depends on your offense and blocking scheme as to how you rank but for me, I like those three. I love David Johnson and would rank him higher if I had more to go on then just a few videos from youtube against lesser talent. That guy has the size, speed and fluidity that you don't often see. When I watch him run, he kinda reminds me of big stronger Marcus Allen. Now before anybody loses their mind, I'm not saying he is going to be Allen in the NFL. I'm just saying that his running style and the fact that he is able to catch the ball so well reminds me of Allen. He's really interesting to me.
