RB Phil Mafah film breakdown

I liked the Mafah pick, especially that late and after the Blue pick. If they both live up to expectations, that's a RB duo that compliments each other very well. It gives them the thunder to pound it inside for short yardage and on the goal line and it gives them the lightning who can take it to the house on any play when they hit a crease, bounce it outside or hit the swing pass in the flat.

It also gives the offense the flexibility to be variable. If you can get them both on the field at the same time, have a dangerous TE in the middle, a deep threat to stretch the field and a dynamic play maker who is a home run threat every play at WR then it's very hard for defenses to defend everything at once.

100%. Everyone is faster in the NFL so a lot of college players who could use their 4.6 speed to outrun the lesser defenders, will struggle to do the same in the NFL. Mafah has to be the guy who can bulldoze his way to the 2nd level and leave the big lays for Blue.

His chances a slim though. He is a late 7th round pick for a reason. If we are counting on day 3 picks to make an impact then we are in trouble.
Late RB in a class loaded with them. In any other class, he goes higher.

Same for Toia at DT.

I've watched Mafah games even before Fallas drafted him because a looked at all the big RBs. Surprising speed and acceleration for a bigger Back. My issue with Mafah is he sometimes acts like a Scatback in a 234lb body. Plenty of times, I wished Mafah would get low and run behind his pad in the open field vs DBs rather than attempt to juke them most of the time. Mafah does run hard and get tough yards at times, but he's not looking to punish defenders.

Hopefully, being around professional coaching and guys like Javonte n Luepke will change Mafah's mentality to running thru a mofo's face because he can do it. Otherwise, lose 10 to 15 pounds to add more speed and quickness.

He did here... (should start at the play).. the woos tell the story.

He's a one cut back. His goal is to get into and past the LBs. Once he does that, he's though to bring down.

He's unique though, because he has that second gear to turn it on once he gets through the line.

He's just not the fastest getting to the line. If nothing else, great late game, 2nd half, back.

Honestly, pencil this Mafah in as RB1.
Well tap the brakes lol, Anyone of them could wind up as # 1 or 2.
TC and PS games will decide starting line up.
For the first time I can remember, it is wide open and nothing is set for
who is #1 or 2 @ RB.

I like him , he reminds me of derrik henry.

I saw 3 plays out of several plays where he dropped a shoulder the rest were jukes, runs out of bounds w/o finish or leg tackles as he ran by. Don't get me wrong it's all fine and well, but in the NFL moreso than college he'll make more impact if he learns to get low and run behind his pads from time to time. I agree Mafah has some speed.

Skip to 3:15 and beyond, Javonte will show you what I'm talking about. He gets low, gets behind his pads and plows thru. Mafah is a different type runner, I get that, but as a change up he should do like Javonte more than he does, it's not a major thing.

IDK the timeframe of the plays you watched but he did have a shoulder injury. You can see the brace in chocolate labs mid season highlight video. I haven’t watched much of this guy so I don’t know how he typically runs.

Excellent point. I'll go watch some earlier games in his career this weekend.

He passes the eye ball test. Not as an every down back. But we don't need him to be.

I think our fan base is underestimating Sanders. I typically appreciate @Aerolithe_Lion's commentary, unlike most Eagles fans. So I trust when he says a lot of his last year had to do with Carolina more than Miles Sanders. Makes sense.

I just watched this video an hour ago though.

I actually tend to agree. Miles Sanders isn’t spectacular but he’s a solid running back who will play well if given an OL that can actually block. The panthers blocking was putrid.
