RBs % of rushes with 10 plus yards last season

Yeah Rico had a better year than people realize. It’ll be interesting to see if Dallas brings him back or looks for fresh legs. I believe James Connor just signed an extension with Arizona so he’s probably not an option.
This is a weird stat. It sounds good but for me i'm concerned with what a guy get blocking breaks down. Does he give me -2 yards or does he give me 2? I also feel like 10 yards is also Dowdles ceiling. Barkley and Henry we know can go for 50+ at any time. That's not Dowdle.

Rico is the type of running back that you don’t give a long term contract too. The Cowboys could get Rico production from drafting two young backs in the 3rd and 5th rounds. The money allotted to Rico could go to a linebacker or nickel cornerback. This draft has probably 15 running backs that have more talent then Rico.

I'd want Rico back if we could get him for ~$5 million because you always want two guys who can carry the rock for you. Three, really in case of injury and I don't see them drafting two backs.

Why?

A quick search came back with (not sure I agree, seems high to me)
  • Mid-tier RBs: Typically occupy around 10-15% of a team's cap space.
Rico around $6M & the rest of the RB group on rookie or low veteran salaries would probably be no more than $10. For round numbers, CAP for 2025 is $280M so $10M would only be 3.5%. 5% would be $14M. Seems like any team should be able to field a pretty solid group for $14M.
They can draft 2 backs. One of the top backs and one of the 5th rounders. They have the 5th round picks to do this. You could have Jeanty and possibly Smith from SMU. You could get a good combination in the draft.

But that requires spending multiple draft picks with one of those being a premium pick. Just pay Rico a fair wage & draft a later round compliment & perhaps some UDFA's that might surprise.

My post was more about the % of salary cap that any team should be willing to spend and how it seems sufficient.
