RBs % of rushes with 10 plus yards last season

The strength of the draft is running back and dtackle. It makes sense to draft 2 of each. They shouldn't spend money on the running back position. That gives them more money to spend on other positions like linebacker.
But we have bigger needs & little hope they'll spend significantly in FA. Draft is likely the only real additions.

I am a bit surprised at the amount of negativity around Rico in this thread. I am no stats guy, I don't believe in them but my eyes tell me he became a bigger threat as the season went along. I am more than happy for him to be on the roster next season. I feel like with greater experience and more snaps he could be a home run hitter.

Rico is a really good player who did everything asked of him last year.

The high of stupidity and retardation would be to let Rico walk and then take Jeanty. Which is probably what we will end up doing

I'm not sure how he develops into a home run guy, he just simply doesn't have the speed for it. Good runner who can get to the 2nd level and did so with consistency as the year went on, but he wont be outrunning 11 guys on defense with any regularity. Hes simply a guy who can get you those 8-12 yard gains with some regularity, will pop a 20 yarder a couple times a year, but thats about it. Still a bit of value in that, but we should be looking to upgrade the starting spot if an opportunity is there to do so.

I am shocked. It doesn't seem like Rico had more than a handful of 10 yard runs. In fact, it doesn't seem like the Cowboys as a team had more than a handful of 10 yards runs. If this is the case, then why did they ever go to that RB by committee approach?

Even with this data, the Cowboys need to be looking RB early in the draft. Not at 12 but in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I support bringing Rico back, but it is a little buyer beware. He had 14 of these 10+ yard runs in three games against Carolina, Cincinnati, and NYG. He had just 12 the other 13 games. On one had these were the games where he was given the ball consistently, but on the other hand he did it against some of the worst teams in football.

Why? He's a top 10 back with ability to house it from 60 for $7M \ year. I go back to my 5% of $14M statement. That's half for your lead back. You should be able to field the rest of your RB group for the remaining $7M.
Yeah the $7M Pollard got paid isnt much at all. David Montgomery makes $9M, Rhamondre Stevenson $9M, Miles Sanders $6.3, Chuba Hubbards $8.3M, Devin Singletary $5.5M. This is just the market rate for tandem backs who will split carries. Pollard is probably slightly under paid for his production.

Give me Jeanty in the 1st and then Williams from Ohio State or Harmon from Oregon in the 2nd.

I think we’ll be very happy with that combination.

These numbers put the market in perspective, couple thoughts:

• There are some RBs in the draft compare to Montgomery, so DAL could save a ton if they hit.

• Rico's market will probably be around $6M. Wonder is that too much?
